Who could tell? wink Just double check it. I don't know the right way to see whether the app was run as admin or not but it seems that such processes have empty "UAC virtualization"

(check it in "View"->"Select columns" list)
column in Task Manager  hmm

Then somehow MPC-HC runs as admin by default. And that program knows how to do it, without UAC ask me first. If I want to run a program as admin, it ask me first, that am I really sure to do it?!

Let's take a closer look at very simple SVPmark synthetic calculations. No codecs, no avisynth, even no real video here.

Your results: 447 in single-threaded mode and 1003 in multi-threaded. 1003/447 ~= 2 = number of physical cores.
And compare it with real i7-960: 462 in single-threaded (almost the same value) and 2042 in MT. 2042/462 ~= 4 wink

For me, it means, windows distributes the "cores" like: 1 physical, 1 HT, 1 physical, 1 HT and so on...

So setting 4 cores means 2 physical and 2 HT.

BTW, if you're running player as administrator you have to run SVP manager as administrator too wink

I don't run the MPC-HC as administrator. But I have to start SVP manager as admin in order to work. Strange.

Question: how to configure the player, to let SVP work together with madVR?

Default SVP installation (no lite).

So... BIG THANK YOU ALL! That damn setting which speeded up the boot process, cut the performance in half. For boot, no option to set 8 cores, msconfig let only choose 0 (default - auto) to 4.

Now, SVP runs smoothly with all videos at around 30-50% CPU load. Very nice smile Maybe I can try higher SVP settings now...

So there's only one issue remains, SVP works only if I run the SVP manager by rightclick run as administrator...

I'll post up logfile later. Now I can watch some videos big_smile

60% / 10%

Thanks MAG! Could SVP evolve in a way, that using the GPU more and the CPU less? Is there a way to give more job to the GPU?

Or future releases are going exactly this way?

best splitter today is Haali

and you dont present results of 3dmark

I'll present my results, after I get to home. I think that damn core setting would solve my performance issues with SVP. I just wanted to ask, that usually, what CPU/GPU load could I expect on a system like mine, when playing 1080p MKV movies.

I just want to know an absolute general load. This system a little bit high-end, that's why I want to know.

If there is 30% CPU/90%GPU load in general on a system like mine, and I get 80/80, it means that something is still wrong in my system. If I get let's say 35/91, I'll be happy, because not too much deviation from the general numbers smile

not only for boot, select number of cores you disable other cores
read manuals carefully!

find it: msconfig.exe - boot - additional parameters - 0 or 8 or disable it

you CPU is very powerfull so you don't see difference beetwen all cpu cores and half-cores wink

Yes, maybe that's happened. Only for this very CPU intensive application, SVP.

I'm wondering what would be the normal load for CPU as well as GPU w/default settings of SVP.

Now I'm at my workplace, I'll try to find that setting and modify it to 8 or back to 0 (which means auto) later today, and will post up the results.

Thank You all! It may solve this problem.

Strange, that I experienced no any slowdowns on any other programs. Since the computer is well and running without any freezes or so, I don't have to use the task manager, so I did not realize that Win7 actually uses only 4 cores (maybe 2 physical and 2 HT, or I don't know how Windows distributes the cores). Also I don't have to use the device manager too much times, since there were no any problems with the computer before smile

For example, Celeron has 2 cores and 2 threads.
Your CPU has to have 4 cores and 8 threads (if ht is on) or 4 threads (if it's off)

Great, will do later today.

Thanks for everyone.

in the device manager how many cpu? it must be 8 (4 real * 2 HT = 8 CPU)

Right. I'll doublecheck later today.

About SVPmark. Your results are very low. sad
Exactly half of the normal values: 859 vs 1768 (uNk).
Why number of threads is only 4? It should be 8.
HyperThreading enabled?

Just look at the tables.

http://www.svp-team.com/forum/misc.php?item=711

http://www.svp-team.com/forum/misc.php?item=712

Tables shows all results with Core i7 9xx CPU at "FHD" resolution (GPU is on). Sorted by "CPU only" score.

I'll check the BIOS, but as far as I can remember, HT cannot be disabled. No option to do it.

I'm wondering, why would SVP needs CPU that much, if OpenCL enabled and it uses the GPU to calculate the frames...

Normally, on a system like mine, what would the normal CPU usage be during 1080p playback with SVP default settings?

Lets analyze results we have got.
1. CPU Throttling is absent - good
2. SVPmark results is low - bad
3. dpclat in green zone - good
4. CPU load in idle is 0 - good

So, we need detailed information about SVPmark results ("Run" at default settings, "Save to file" and put it here) and about your hardware (for example show AIDA64 HTML report).
First, fill your profile.

I updated my profile with my system details. If U need any more information, please let me know.

I will do.

2. After that, I start SVP by rightclick->run as administrator... and put the logfile here.

Only for 2 min, but I run the stability test. I think, no issue. I not experienced any stability issue, using the computer. Only SVP has some problems.
Maybe it could help to some others out there, that if they experience SVP not working just "waiting for ffdshow video...", try to re-run SVP manager as administrator (even if the current user is an administrator).
But this still not solved my problem. Maybe GPU assist simply not working somehow?

What did You read about my posted results from the SVPMark?

CPU Throttling results

Now I know why SVP is not working after install. SVP manager has to be run as administrator!!!! Strange, because my user is already an admin but still UAC is enabled.
So, after restart, if I run SVP manager as admin, it works. But high CPU load is still in effect  sad

44

(58 replies, posted in Using SVP)

4. CPU load is 0 when pausing the video.

Also I can confirm. Right after installation, SVP works, but high CPU load is in effect.
After system restart, SVP cease functioning, and I could never get it working again.

What could cause this? Maybe some of the scripts doesn't know that it's a 64 bit system, and therefore directories are in "Program Files (x86)" instead of "Program Files"?

45

(58 replies, posted in Using SVP)

MAG79!

I did the 4 required tests.

1. It's a lot of data, I did a CPU and memory speed test, all results are as just expected, according to other systems. If You really need the HTML report, maybe I can upload it to somewhere.
2. Tests are done. I modified the thread number to 9, to be same as my setting in SVP. Results are posted, You may check them. I did it a few minutes ago.
3. Printscreen:
http://dsgnet.hu/dpc.jpg
4. Not tested yet... because...
Maybe the problem is somewhere else, not in the pure power of my system. I have no idea.

Could it be, that Avisynth is not 64 bits?

STRANGE! Yesterday, SVP worked, but with the issue I told You (I know I did NOT restart the computer after install). Today, SVP simply not working. Since Yesterday, nothing has changed in the system, just a restart.

Now I try it again. I'm removing SVP now completely. Delete all remaining files and directories. Restart. Install, test. If works I do restart. I'll post the results in a few minutes.

MAG79

I'll do the first three later today. Thanks for the tips.

About the 4th: CPU load is 0 when I'm doing nothing. No any software runs constantly which "eats" CPU power. The system sits on a SSD so really no bottlenecks:) I'll do the measurements and post the results.

47

(58 replies, posted in Using SVP)

Could be the reason that, the film is not 24 fps but 23.976?

According to any other measurements, my system just works fine. Experience index, games, everything. I cannot see any bottlenecks on my system.

48

MAG79

Tricky;) The second video is MKV just renamed to AVI. Reason: that damn Cyberlink PowerDVD cannot play MKV files by default, even with Haali installed. Renaming the MKV to AVI solves the problem smile

On this computer (where I want to use SVP) the is no PowerDVD installed, so I'll just rename the file back, and try it again. Thanks.

But... even on the other file (which has MKV extension) the CPU usage is between 75%-99%. Is this normal with this hardware? 6970 not capable of doing this? I don't think so.

There's a problem somewhere, I just don't know where. According to forums here and other sites, if someone installs SVP on adequate hardware and do no modify default install options (like madVR or use ffdshow with DXVA), the SVP just runs fine, even with lower hardware.

49

(58 replies, posted in Using SVP)

MAG79

I know it's not easy, to find problem in someone else's system, but then ask, or tell me what sould I do.

The W7 is well installed, all drivers are current and all software components are up to date. I do not see anything which could interfere with this thing. No other codecs and or players are installed. 'coz I hate codec packs, I always use MPC-HC which is default for SVP.

MAG79 wrote:

Which splitter do you use?
And which decoder?

I recommend to use Haali (with checked "avi" option) and any hardware decoding:
- potplayer (DXVA2);
- Cyberlink (HAM).

or fast software decoding:
- ffdShow;
- CoreAVC.

Like I said, I use default SVP 3.0.5 installation.

SVP + Avisynth 2.5 + ffdshow + MPC-HC + Haali Media Splitter

All settings default. I did not try to modify anything, I suppose it should work without any settings on my hardware.
