you don't need any kind of special support from JRiver to make SVP work

Ok, so SVP will work with the standard installation of MC17? But do I install all the separate required packages (Avisynth 2.5.8, ffdShow rev.4453 x86 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 MFC Security Update) or is this not needed?

Chainik, I don t know how to answer on the MC17 thread. Can you help me out what to reply to the person Matt (MC17 developer) http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74369.0

I opened a topic over at the Media Center 17 forum. See http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.p … c=74369.0.
One of the MC17 developers (Matt) asks:

Is SVP a video post-processor DirectShow filter?

If so, we would just need to categorize/white-list it for use with Red October.  Then you'd select it with 'Custom' video mode in Media Center.

If it is a post-processor, do you happen to know the GUID?

I subscribed for beta testing a few months ago so I assume MAG79 will notify me as soon as a new version is on the horizon.

May be we should add more options like "adaptive more smooth" and "adaptive less artifacts" in the future...

can you maybe already tell me if you have plans for "adaptive more smooth" and "adaptive less artifacts" in the near future? Would love to test these smile

I m running a 2600K oc-ed with GTX460@stock speed and I ve tested a lot with the SVP settings. The only Frame Interpolation Mode that gives me NOT A SINGLE VISIBLE ARTIFACT during a 2 hours full HD Blu Ray movie is 2M. I know this isn t the smoothest Frame Interpolation Mode that SVP offers (it s even the least smoothest) but I ve add some (cpu internsive) SVP settings on top of the 2M settings to give me a little better smoothness:

SVP shader: standard
target frame rate: to screen refresh rate (which is 59,92 in my case)
motion vectors grid: 8 px. small o
decrease grid step: by two with global refinement
search radius: large
motion vector precision: half pixel
artifact masking: off

This maxes my CPU to approx 55-60% (75% at heavy scenes) and gives me no dropped frames or presentation glitches reported by madVR.

I know that Frame Interpolation Mode 1M or Adaptive gives a way more smooth picture but I want an artifact free picture so you then stuck with 2M. 1M just gives me a little too much artifacts. I wish there was a 1.5M option so I could check if this gives no artifacts and of course just a little better smoothness then 2M.

On top of this I enable a min setting of FI on my JVC RS45 projector and the result is artifact free picture with quite some smoothness. Of course

Any rumors about a new SVP version yet?

Anyone knows if SVP is compatible with JRiver Media Center 17?

I m a mpc-hc+madvr user. When I dont use svp and use the regular nvidia 23hz (23.976 actually) profile for blu-ray content I get no dropped frames and no presentation glitches reported by madvr. But when I enable svp (and use the 59hz nvidia profile) I get like 5-10 presentation glitches every 20 minutes or so (no dropped frames however). The problem is not cpu related because the presentation glitches are there with heavy or light svp setting. Any thoughts anyone?

I m using SVP 3.1.2 and a GTX460 on a W7x64 system. I m still using NVIDIA ForceWare 295.73. This runs fine. However, are one the newer versions (296.17 / 296.10 / 310.10 / 301.10 or 301.42) make SVP run better (less CPU/GPU load).

What artifacts you mean?

artifacts around moving people mostly and artifacts at the bottom and top (last cms) of the picture.

If you are talking about ANY picture artifacts then you must to decrease amount of calculated frames and increase amount of source frames (save them all) in the output video. You can do it by choosing Frame doubling.

But what exactly is the difference when choosing frame doubling or when changing the frame interpolation mode? I thought FI mode changing from eg. 1M to 2M results in more original frames so how is 'to screen refresh rate=>frame doubling' different from '1M=>2M'?

And what you mean when say "Ultimate settings"? "smoothness AND no artifacts"?
Do you understand what more smoothness makes more artifacts. More masking makes less smothness.

I understand so I m looking for the best settings (for me). Like I said in another topic (http://www.svp-team.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=733) 1M gives too much artifacts and 2M no artifacts. Isn t there a possibility to create a FI mode between 1M and 2M? ('1,5M')

Let's do this thing: I will explain one setting at time in this topic. And after that we can compose them to the wiki manual.

Sounds great! Maybe you have time to explain in detail 2 or 3 things everyday so you have it all in one week and can add it to the WIKI? I know for sure a lot of SVP users from the Netherlands are dying for this! smile

Frames Interpolation Mode
SVP Shader
Motion Vectors Interpolation Mode
Target Frame Rate
Motion Vectors Grid
Decrease Grid Step
Search Radius
Motion Vectors Precision
Wide Search
Artifact Masking
Processing Of Scene Changes
Decrease Frame Size
Blend Frames To Screen Refresh Rate

Chainik and MAD79,

I have a feature request (if possible to make) for a new SVP version. At this moment I keep switching between 2M and 1M for FI modes. 2M gives me no artifacts at all while 1M gives me too much artifacts. Is there a possibility to create a Frames Interpolation Mode of 1,5M so that the picture becomes smoother than 2M but not as smooth (so not as many artifacts!) as 1M?

Okay I am still looking for the ultimate settings to have smoothness AND no artifacts. I think it s impotant to say what content I play: Full HD 1080p Blu-Ray 23,976fps material. First off all I now know that I have to disable 'decrease grid step' and set 'motion vectors grid' to a low setting. Do I set the motion vectors grid the the LOWEST setting (large 3 I though, don t sit behind my pc atm) for least artifacts?

Next there is the 'frame interpolation mode'. Adaptive is no option for me I think because Adaptive sometimes will switch to Uniform correct? If so, this is one of the causes that gives me artifacts with Adaptive. 2M gives me no artifacts at all but like Chainik told me the smoothness effect is not that good with 2M because there are too many original frames. So for this moment I m sticking with  1M.

Next is 'search radius'. What is the recommended setting to use here when looking for minimal artifacts while still remain smoothness?  Small and Fast?

Next is 'motion vector precision'. I keep seeing differences in peoples recommandations here. Some say half pixel while others say two pixels. What is the correct answer?

And what about Wide Search? What does exactly do and is disabled the best for least artifacts?

EDIT:
And what about the SVP shader. To me it looks like the Complicated shader gives the least artifacts. Is this correct?

They are not the same on my GTX460. With the 59 profile madVR reports 59,94 and with 60 profile madVR reports 60,01.

When using a NVIDIA GTX460 (with the latest drivers) is it recommended to use the 59Hz or 60Hz NVIDIA profile?

that would be great.

Chainik
thxz for your reply. Adaptive is no option for me with SVP because Adpative gives way too much artifacts on a 120'' projected image. 2M seems the only option that does not give me artifacts. Maybe I can try 1M again today with some setting combination to see if a artifact free image is possible.

Jimmy03
the results with uniform smoothness gives too much visible artifacts on a big screen (projector) at certain scenes.
I ve tested over and over tonight and for an artifact free 2 hour movie I ve (again, just like with older versions of svp) picked 2M for now as smoothness (maybe 1M is an option but haven t found the right combination with 1M and other settings for artifact free picture).

I m now on:

2M
complicated
bicubic
to screen refresh rate
8 px. small o
by two with global refinement
large
half pixel
strongest
disabled
repeat frame
disabled

MAG79
sorry, my bad

@Jimmy03, you recommend Uniform as Frame Interpolation Mode. I haven t had time to test (will do tonight) but I think this FI mode will cause more artifacts then Adaptive.

And why do you recommend 2 pixels at motion cector precision while MAG79 advises half pixel?

complicated SVP shader
This shader uses four neighbor frames to create each new frame. It is the only shader that uses so much information.
In addition this shader applies occlusion mask to avoid contour artifacts.

A SVP guide would really be great MAG79!
Thank you for your vote. I'll try to find time and strength for it. smile

Ok, so because of this occlusion mask I don t have contour artifacts? Are there other ways to avoid contour artifacts without using the complicated shader?

Ok, thxz.

Last night did some testing again and with the settings you provided I get lot of artifacts around moving people (not always but a lot). I tried the complicated SVP shader and it seems that this shader handles these people contours much better. Does this sound right? What does the complicated svp shader do exactly?

A SVP guide would really be great MAG79!
