I try all HW decoders (CUVID, Quicksync, DXVA2 copy-back and DXVA2 native) in LAV Video Decoder. And I try All DXVA-compatible renderers.

I agree with this, in particular I get the best performance with QuickSync + D3D Fullscreen for videos larger than 1080p.

the problem is broken video drivers

If that's the case then it might be wise to run DDU in safe mode and then re-install your GPU drivers (preferably AMD or Intel ones if you're on Windows 10 tongue).

You wouldn't happen to be using an Nvidia GPU on Windows 10, would you?

Regardless, try enabling either "D3D Fullscreen" or "use Direct3D 11 for presentation".

My experience on seeing a 120fps/90fps/75fps movie with svp in a 60hz tv is negative, didn't like it! Nothing else to say. Better to stick with 60fps .... or buy a better monitor.

I agree, but I'm one of those few people that still use CRTs, so running my monitor at 90hz or higher is really easy.

I don't know about the full release of SVP 4 (I'm away from home so I can't test currently), but with the beta versions of SVP4 I had to use the AviSynth MT that was posted several months ago:

In other words, this is SVP's first foray into paid software, so it's to be expected that there will be stumbling blocks - this is definitely not the first time it has happened (there were issues where, before the pricing was laid out, it was not clear that the $10 backing option was only for Windows and not for Mac as well).

Now consider that English is not at the dev's native tongue, so there's going to be some language barriers as well when it comes to communication and mutual understanding (I can definitely attest to that since I've already made several corrections to the wording of various text and sentences in SVP4 beta over the last few months).

I wouldn't be surprised if it was related to Nvidia's poor Windows 10 drivers...

It's bad enough that Intel and AMD is currently a much better choice for Windows 10 users.

You forgot the third way - right click on the SVP tray icon and close SVP.

Roberto Rossi, does this issue occur even when SVP is completely closed?

So, just turn off CUVID decoder in LAV and you'll be fine.

Well then just switch it to DXVA2 (copy-back) or, if you have an Intel CPU with an iGPU made since 2011, you could use Intel QuickSync.

Then you probably would have been fine if you just enabled "D3D Fullscreen" in EVR custom presenter.

I had a similar issue that was solved by increasing the processing threads amount to 7.

Also, regarding sharp vs adaptive, that was only on low-end hardware.

Are you using the MPC-HC that came bundled with SVP?

If not, are you using MPC-HC 32bit?

If yes, did you follow the instructions outlined here?:
https://www.svp-team.com/w/index.php?title=SVP:MPC-HC

If yes, then it might be a good idea to try the MPC-HC that came bundled with SVP.  If you did not select it for installation when installing SVP, then it would probably be a good idea to download a fresh copy of MPC-HC Portable from PortableApps from the link below and then follow the set-up instructions that I linked to above.

Notice: For users of Livestreamer, please be aware that it does not (currently) work with MPC-HC Portable.

4+1 should be fine for their APUs and the like since they pull less power than the FX CPUs...

In the pro version you can use different settings (including disabling interpolation completely) based on the video resolution.

Is it possible to use GPU acceleration on SVP4 with newest nvidia drivers in win10 or still is a no go ?

AFAIK this issue is something that is purely on Nvidia's side of things and not SVP.  Basically Nvidia really dropped the ball on Windows 10 drivers, especially compared to AMD and Intel's Win10 drivers.

May I have a copy of that high-contrast theme?  I know all too well about software that doesn't work correctly with Windows' normal high-contrast theme.

Blackfyre, you might be over-thinking it.   It's very possible that s/he is downloading MPC-HC seperately from their own website which will default to MPC-HC 64bit on 64bit OSes.

It's just that the color thing sounds exactly like what you get if the GPU is outputting a different color range than your TV is accepting.

894

(5 replies, posted in Using SVP)

There's no harm in at least trying, is there?

895

Your AMD color issue sounds like a feature, not a defect.  Look into full range (0-255) color vs limited range (16-235) and maybe you'll get the jist.  For reference, Intel does not let you select the color range (heck even Nvidia doesn't) but AMD does.

Your comment regarding high power consumption is very strange considering the E-350 was low-powered enough to be put into netbooks (I have an HP DM1 with it) while the Pentium G620 is only a desktop part.  Are you sure you don't mean temperature?

Also I am unsure what you mean by a poor DXVA implementation...I've been able to play 1920x1080 30fps or 1280x720 50fps AVC videos perfectly fine with low enough CPU utilization that I can even unplug the only fan in my DM1 and it will stay cool enough to never hit or go above 90c (that's Brazos's "danger zone", it does a thermal shut-off around 95c).

Anyway, recagarding the profile 2c, there is no "2GHz recommendation", there is only a recommendation that if you have an Athlon II x3 that it should be at least 2.7GHz.  For reference, an Athlon II is like half as slow per-GHz compared to your Haswell i3.  It's not on this chart, but Haswell is anywhere from 10% to 40% faster per GHz than Sandy Bridge:

EDIT: After selecting the 2c profile, make sure you try it with GPU acceleration enabled in SVP as well as GPU acceleration disabled in SVP.  Interestingly enough, regardless of whether you're using GPU acceleration or not, the 2c profile does in fact use different (lower) settings than the 2g profile.

I see a chunk on that list but I wouldn't call it a good chunk lol.

According to the find bar in my browser, there are 77 hits for '60fps' but "only" 63 hits for '30fps'

That's 55% 60fps vs 45% 30fps, and while it's only a difference of 10%, 55% is still a majority.

Is that not enough to qualify as a "good chunk"?

60 FPS, my inclination is that the easiest approach would be to turn on frame interpolation on your TV.

Just remember that a good chunk of PS4 and XB1 games already run at 60fps:

You're getting dropped frames at only 60% load?  That doesn't seem right...

Nevertheless, I mentioned profile 2c because it's meant to be used with weak GPUs or without GPU acceleration altogether.

Lasty, I can't help but wonder if maybe a quad-core AMD APU would have been a wiser choice...unless you have some kind of use-case where you need Haswell's stronger single-threaded performance.

But what about manually increasing the video settings above what 1g uses by default?  Also, have you tried the 2c default profile?

Really what we should be asking is how much CPU headroom do you have when using MadVR but SVP is flat-out closed and not running?

But the question is, was it enough to use higher settings in SVP as well?  SVP is not really GPU-heavy, it's much more CPU-heavy.
