Thanks for the explanation.
I also found in the FAQ section that a faster processor is preferred over more cores.
Thanks for the answer.
59Hz is actually 59.941... Interesting... Never knew that.
Is there any real advantage using the 59.951 setting over 60Hz ?
I occasionally get slight jerks in the video stream, but that even happens with the interpolation feature on my projector (SVP turned off)
Some of it is attributed to the actual Blu-ray disc playing, I can hear it spinning up again when the buffer is emptied (if that makes sense).
What is the purpose of using Reclock with SVP ? Did a search on this and really didn't find anything.
I am thinking that since SVP is taking the native frame rate of a Blu-ray at 23.976 FPS and interpolating frame to 59.94 FPS, that I may not need Reclock.
I believe this to be so since the NVIDIA control panel shows a refresh rate of 59 Hz available when hooked up to my projector.
Is it better to have a faster processor or more cores ?
I have a i7-4770k at stock speed running at 3.5 Ghz and has a turbo boost to 3.9 GHz.
It can be pushed to what ever, but it will have to be water cooled.
I am also running a EVGA GTX 980, so is there any advantage to what you see in the screen shot as a setting ?
Thanks !
Blackfyre :
Mine says Direct3D 11 not Direct X _ don't know if that makes a difference, but Direct3D 11 is selected on my Dell running two GTX860's and an i7 4710MQ _ not the fastest processor on the planet, but good enough to run SVP.
My HTPC is running a GTX980 with an i7 4770k (not over clocked).
The type of artifacts that happen "The Theory Of Everything" happens in all movies with moving objects over complex backgrounds.
Thanks for you response.
Leaving the same settings in SVP, I see no improvement in artifacts compared to MPC-HC. With the movie "The Theory Of Everything" at the beginning where the bike riders are in front of complex back grounds of tree leaves, the artifacts are both exactly the same, my projector handles that scene better, to be honest.
A player is a player, turn up the settings in SVP to make it more smooth _ the artifacts increase _ turn the settings down _ you get less artifacts, but less smoothness.
The only thing I can find that's remotely related to "Auto load Sub-titles" is Auto-Load Audio Files" and that is checked already.
But it doesn't matter, as long as I can get it to work with out it crashing.
Thanks.
Where is the Auto-Load Sub-Title button ? Just curious...
While the movie is playing, I have been right clicking and selecting "Sub-Titles" and then choosing the track with the forced subtitles.
However, it seems to be working if I right click and select "Filters" > LAV Splitter Internal > and then choosing the track with the forced sub titles from with in the "LAV Splitter Internal" window.
Seems that it doesn't like having the sub title track (any track) being chosen directly from the menu when I right click while the move is playing.
Quite temperamental...
Why would it make a difference ?
Thanks.
I thought I would start here with this, but it may a problem with ffdshow raw filter.
The forced sub title track on "Million Dollar Arm" is not embedded with in the DTS-HD Master, it's in a separate track that has to be enabled along with the DTS-HD track.
The other track is English (eng) (pgs)
However when the forced sub titles come into play, MPC-HC crashes as what you see in the screen shot.
Maybe I should be contacting MPC and giving them a dump file ?
Thanks !
What is the model of your projector and how old is it ?
This is getting a bit out of my knowledge base as my projector is not 3D...
I don't believe 3D imagery is transported at a resolution of 3840x1080 pixels and we are talking about 1920 x 1080p here, that's 2K _ 4K is double that of course and requires a new HDMI cable.
3D is still 1920 x 1080p through the HDMI cable, the projector does the rest of the work turning it into 3D and upgrading the refresh rate to 120Hz.
Also remember that your projectors native resolution is 1920 x 1080p (assuming that), so even if a higher resolution was sent down the HDMI cable it will still be scaled down to your fixed native resolution.
About VGA : I don't know what the max resolution is for VGA or the max refresh rate it can handle _ you can look that up.
Check your specs on your projector though, I'm betting that the max refresh rate it can accept through VGA and HDMI is 60Hz at your maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080p. If you go beyond those specs, your projector will scale it down.
There is nothing to gain by ramping up the refresh rate or resolution _ even 4K is still 60 Hz refresh rate.
OK, I'll take a stab at it and one of the developers can/may correct if they wish. Or you may if you like.
If you were to take a 3D Blu-ray and create a file of it, it would (in most cases) exceed the 50GB max container of a disc. One of the easiest ways to make a copy of a 3D Blu-ray is to make a direct bit per bit ISO of it. Making an ISO of a 3D disc retains the part of the discs information to tell the display to play two separate movies running at the same time _ one for the left eye and one for the right.
When you play a 3D Blu-ray there are instructions on it (for a lack of a better term) that tell the display to divide up the picture into 2 separate movies, one for the left eye and one for the right to produce the 3D effect.
The display refreshes each picture (for the left and right eye) at 60Hz (or frames per second if you like), but this happens after it reaches the display.
However the signal from the player is still fed in through the HDMI cable at 60 Hz and the instructions with in the 3D disc tell the display to turn it into 3D by refreshing it at 120 Hz (60 Hz for each eye) or if you like at 240Hz for displays (projectors) that apply frame interpolation from with in the display.
Here is a thread I started with a few answers.
http://www.svp-team.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2310
To sum up, HDMI can only do 60fps or refresh at that rate and that doesn't change.
If you force more frames per second, then it will be scaled to 60 fps or refreshed to that rate.
You can do what ever you want with SVP using what ever filters you apply and this may improve things like getting rid of artifacts, but in the end it will still be scaled to 60Hz refresh rate when sent to a 60Hz monitor.
That would explain the warning and in the NVIDIA control panel it shows 60, 59, 50,24 and 23 _ 59 being 59.94 Hz and 23 being 23.976 Hz.
If the max signal the projector is accepting is 60 Hz, then the 71.91 (I don't think that's right with out checking) that SVP is inputting into the projector must be being scaled down ?
But then why does the SVP show it going from 23.976 to 71.91 Hz at the beginning of a movie ?
Is it being scaled to 60 Hz and then brought back up to 71.91 Hz ?
It's confusing _ one would think that if the projectors max Hz. is 60 on the input, then why would it accept anything higher and yet it does.
But I do know that no matter what I set SVP to _ even 95 Hz. the projector always displays 60Hz in the information window when it's brought up on the screen.
Then one would think that SVP would not be able to go beyond anything above 60Hz ???
With this setting I get a bit over 72 FPS and this greatly helps dealing with fast moving objects.
My 4770K still is only using around 50% of its resources.
My Panasonic projector has a refresh rate of 120Hz so why do I always get the message warning me I am about to pick a setting that my display may not be able deal with ?
I ignore this warning and the movie plays as normal.
And just in case you're wondering, if I choose the 4x setting, the CPU can't deal with that at 1080p as its usage is being pushed to around 89 to 98%.
Which brings me to a request, it would be great to have a setting to put more of the load on the GPU.
I have a new GTX980 and it's only using 63% of is resources.
I already have SVP to use the GPU and the setting in the NVIDIA control panel is set to use the GPU _ changed from the automatic setting.
Other then these concerns, everything works great, even the 4770k is only getting to 60 degrees max with the stock cooler.
The cooling fans on the GTX980 are no even coming on... It's not really working that hard _ and should be.
Thanks !
That's a GTX770M as well, a laptop GPU is not the same as desktop GPU with the same model number.
The 770M has 960 cores while the desktop 770 has 1536 cores.
oviano
My GPU is working even if the processor is almost maxed out. HWMonitir shows a rise in temperature to 52 degrees for the video card. The NVIDIA control panel is set to favor the GPU, although it doesn't seem to matter if I leave it at automatic or CPU.
Fanty1972
Yes probably, but Oviano has nothing to loose by trying. I always found part of trouble shooting is the process of elimination, even if one of the possible solutions may be improbable.
Not too sure if this has anything to do with it, but in my case I had to connect the drive through one of the SATA connections on the mother board. My USB3 connection couldn't handle the flow of information and in my case it was probably because my external hard drive caddy was only running at USB2 speeds.
With that said it makes me wonder if USB3 is fast enough, regardless.
My system is running a i7-4770K (not overclocked) 3.9 Ghz max turbo and a Zotac 760Amp edition video card.
Even with that, SVP complains that the system is running out of steam _ the CPU is running near 100%.
So my question is when does one need "6 px. Small" 2 as a setting ? The 4770k can be over-clocked to 4.2 and I have even rad that some are pushing it 4.7 Ghz.
Or what sort of video card will it take to run the settings you see in the screen shot ? (the screen shot was not taken on the i7 4770k machine, but just for forum purposes)
Thanks !
I really think that it should be allowed by the law to buy BD disk, put it on a shelf and then download BD-remux in MKV from torrents for everyday usage
Personally I could even pass first two steps and just pay for downloadable MKV.
There is a scheme in the US (as you may know) with Ultraviolet. It allows the original owner of the Blu-ray disc to upload a given Blu-ray and access it anywhere with in the US _ I am not sure if it would be accessible world wide though.
You can also buy virtual movies and have them uploaded to your Ultraviolet account, but again this is only in the US as far as I know, I tried creating a Canadian account for these virtual movies and it was only available in the US.
Have you guys ever thought about making your own player to go along with the SVP software and having it licensed so people could play Blu-rays and DVD's with out having to download MKV files of a given movie ?
Of course then you would have to start charging for you product rather then relying on donations.
Personally if you came up with a player like that I would pay a 100.00 bucks for it. It would be licensed and I wouldn't have to worry about removing the AACS code on my Blu-rays. The down side of a player like that is it would have to run on quite a powerful computer and most peoples rigs are not up for the task _ so I am finding out.
When I am satisfied with SVP and its stability I give some cash.

Interestingly the full installer package of SVP installed the 64 bit version of MPC-HC.really?
Upon checking it is the 32 bit version, but in the info window is says 64 bit ???
Forget it, I'm looking at the information in the OS window.
Still experimenting and I have discovered one of the problems was playing Blu-ray files thorough an external hard drive connected through USB _ it's too slow. Connecting the drive directly through one of the SATA connections works wonders. I can click directly on the correct playlist in MPC-HC and it seems to work fine with out crashing. Still doesn't work with PotPlayer, but as long as it works with one player.
I also installed the latest version of MPC-HC and it picked up on the already installed filters and it works well too.
This is a great convenience as creating MKV files of a movie form an ISO image was a bit of pain in the ass.

Thanks, I just wanted to be sure there wasn't something I was missing. And your post also has helped allot as I am building a new rig just for SVP. It's surprising how much juice the CPU and GPU is running at. But frame interpolation on a 1080p scale would take up allot of recourses. I'll leave your thread alone now.
Hey guys,
I have my SVP set up according to Maken's guide exactly, except that I'm using madVR instead of EVR as the video render.
My CPU is a 2500K, overclocked to 4.5GHz and my GPU is a GTX680, both very powerful.
When playing 1080p movies, my CPU can sometimes reach 70% load, usually it's at the mid 50%, my GPU load is usually at 35% which I'm ok with.
I tried using it with EVR and the CPU usage remained the same, so it must be something with the SVP Manager settings I guess.
I am not sure if this is normal or not and maybe there are some settings I should change? I am using the default settings which were selected by SVP when I installed it.
Using SVP 3.1.5
Thanks
Zachn, how are you playing your 1080p movies, I found that I have to convert my Blu-rays into MKV files and then they will work with Potplayer ? It would be great if I could find a way to play the ISO's or the movie directly with out having to convert them. Thanks for any help here.
