hi, for me is " Uniform (max smoothness) " and " 23. Complicated ", these provide max smoothness at cost of artifacts. Lower settings on those options provide less artifact but less smoothness that can be noticed depending of the person. Maxed all settings for example wont free you of zero artifacts, you have to toy there to make something balanced between decent smooth with tolerable artifacts. Less smooth means less artifacts, more smooth means more artifacts, that's the price.

sorry bad English.

Updates 3/2/2014

1- Main post updated with Basic settings to make PotPlayer ready for SVP. It gives performance / quality.
2- Extras and SVP settings are still W.I.P. and I will update them in times.
3- Advanced settings for Nvidia users, Creative Sound Blaster Sound Cards, optional Windows settings ( Audio / Video recommended settings ), personal test on some file  types like mkv, mp4, DTS, TrueDTS, BDAV, etc. Users with 5.1 speakers setup and more will be on Extras.

If need help with things that are about this Guide only just let me know. Thanks

Hi Maken,

Will your guide be applicable to PotPlayer Portable? I'm asking because installation method uses different directories and scattered dll files all over the place.

I'm trying to keep all my apps portable for easy copy/paste situations.

Happy new year everyone!

Hey orky87 how are you?
It should be fine with no problems, only you need is that your PotPlayer version(s) are updated I mean if it have same settings that are needed for this guide to make all work.. then ok.

@onlytannmoy
Thank you big_smile
.................................

I uninstalled all, downloaded all again to last versions: PotPlayer ( with updates if available ), ffdshow, svp, audio drivers, video driver and more. Thing I recommend all the time, ok maybe its boring for some peoples but no way its better keep doing that.
I can see it now, PotPlayer looks different, also some new options for say something so I need to change some screenshots. Something I liked is the sound is much better than before, I said it before thing I love more from watching movies and more is the sound, then I have speakers, sound card and best drivers? and my personal configuration after hours of testing until feed my needs. About performance well yes maybe the same or a little better and remember im still running in an old system and that's the good if it runs good then for you peoples with better and updated hardware will be.. you know smile.

The most important thing I want to make clear is the option that SVP is giving to you all with their pack and my guide is up to you, its not about which one is " better " or not Its about tastes and of course both have better stuffs than the other don't have, its good that way its for different needs. SVPs pack comes with all you need and other Player and I give you the choise to try PotPlayer + SVP + my personal settings that's all. One of those will give you what you need or is best for you and that's something you must find out yourself.

If this work for good at the end, a thanks will be enough and If you want to help me get better hardware it will be welcome too. If you want to know something about SVP only you must ask to the experts " SVP Team ". You must ask me things that are about to what is shown on my guide, I will answer if im able and if im not, im sure SVP Team will help as they were doing all this time.

I want to Thank to all peoples who contacted me in any way to ask/share their experiences about how much this helped them, worked, enjoy and more. Also I want to say Thanks to SVP to still keep this alive.

Sorry bad English.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL

New things for 2014 smile.   Happy Smoother-Year.

Hi everyone, long time ah? and sorry for that. its a long history. Thanks to all for your patient and "likes". I need to uninstall all, install all again with the new versions svp/software and test again. I noticed some new stuffs on actual PotPlayers but as I can see some settings for my Guide will still remain the same for me so no need to change all screenshots unless if I considerate something to be change / updated.

PS: ahh I forget to say Thanks to Rimsky,MAG79 and so for help the ppls while I was not here and still keep this alive.

Sorry bad English.

Mak.

MAG79

big_smile much!!! better and smooth.

Just in case you dont need to use SVP for native 60 fps Videos / Movies. Anything less than native 60 fps then SVP is the best as simple as its.

Post your results here would be good.

Greetings - Maken

Hi Maken,

I have a problem. Suddenly when I play a movie, my CPU usage is shooting to 97% and my GPU usage is only 4%???
I didn't change any settings.

The only change I made was patching windows so that I can use independant Visual Styles and I started using IconPackager. I don't see how any of these 2 should matter?

I have currently uninstalled everything. Do you have an updated guide for the new version of SVP?

Thanks

Hi Zachn, how you been? smile

But what settings, player and settings are you using ? your pc specs ? the specs of the movie / video what is causing your high cpu usage ? best way to find the problem is check if is there X settings is causing the problem. I dont know if the " IconPackager " is causing the problem, id never tried it. In this case maybe is something missing. Please try to give us more info to see if we can find the problem.

Not yet, all this time i was working about Sound and a fix for my guide to play 60 fps videos, i noticed that when i try to play X video or movie that comes at 60 fps i have framedrops even if the cpu is not max usage, but i fixed it. I will post all of that here this week.

Greetings and sorry for the late answer.

All samples as you can see at 1920x1080 or 800 with high video bitrate, more of this will be post later and also new test / settings will be on EXTRAS option as i said before so keep an eye on that. If you can post your results , would be good and help me on my work, if you like SVP and PotPlayer support them and also me if you like.

Thanks for you time, greetings.

Great to see you back in action Maken, to be honest I'm super exited to see your new guide hope it all goes smooth for you.

Thanks for your work and effort.

All the best.!

Hi all smile

Thank you for that really, that motivate me much more. If im honest im slow with this because my recover and also some work, very hard in this moment to me get new hardware upgrades ( expensive ). Also Games big_smile haha im gamer and cant resist the temptation of try some games and mod them graphically, that takes much time too.

The new SVP and lastest PotPlayers are much better than before so i still keep my tastes for those only. All im planning to upgrade are minor changes i think its only about it, im not saying that Media Player Home Cinema is bad no no no, its very good too, its just about tastes. Its almost the same guide its just that i removed and focused more only to the things that i considerate are the best for this combination of PotPlayer + SVP, in other words my point of view / experience and of course limited by my PC capabilities.

All new things that i could discover will be in one important section call EXTRAS,this Extra will keep options / settings to enhanced much more X things ( more about this later ). Because there is so much things i would like to say and show to all of you based on my experience with this, i will try to resume and do this as simple as i can, mostly with screenshots for easy understanding and set up.

Greetings to all and sorry for the bad english tongue

Old 2012 Guide 2.0 for the moment here

Makens PotPlayer and SVP Guide 2.0

Hi all, this is my personal PotPlayer config and SVP Custom profiles that i want to share with all of you to see if this work as good as it does for me.

First than nothing say thanks to SVP Team for this application and support them if you can, they are doing a hard and great work for us.
English is not my natural Language, i speak and understand much better Spanish but i can read English smile so my problems becomes at the time of writing..sorry for this i hope no one get ofended or something like that for anything bad i can write, IF SOMEONE LATER ONCE I FINISH MY GUIDE WANT TO HELP TO CORRECT AND TRANSLATE BETTER THIS IT WILL BE VERY APRECIATE.

Before start please keep this into consideration before use my Guide:

1- This part is dedicated more for mid range and powerful PCs, Highest / Extreme image Quality ( my personal settings and recommended shaders ), custom settings tweaked especialy for PotPlayer + SVP + my personal SVPs custom profiles as recommendation for test your final results using my Guide and see how it work smile.
2- Im giving support for PotPlayer only because is my favourite Player, in fact is the best, im not saying that is the best on the planet but for ME it is and more after tried alot of players that at the end were good ( in X cases ) but not as good as PotPlayer was giving me on my very limited and old PC big_smile. You can use Media Player Home Cinema its very good!! as well, i think apart of PotPlayer its the best as well but is not my fav and guides about it you can find easy so i will not for now give recommendations and settings for it, again this is only for PotPlayer + SVP. I hope you can understand me.
3- This is more dedicated for NVIDIA users smile and yes i know why not ATi? simple because i dont have any ATi Video Card to test sad and no money for it, once i can get one later, then take for sure i will make some test and update this guide for ATi users wink.
4- Guide is optimized or based more on Windows 7, sorry no XP here i think its not need, Win7 is faster and good enough for any pc only if you find the way how to optimized it for your system.
5- Old Dual Core users are not recommended to use this Guide, only if you Dual Core users are in the same situation or better that me? then your Dual Core have to be much better than one Core 2 Duo E8500 overclocked at 4.1ghz , if this is the case then you can skip the old Guide that is for slower PCs.
6- GOOD OR FASTER MULTICORE USERS THIS IS YOUR PLACE! big_smile, YOU NEED ALL IT POWER TO RISE ALL YOU WANT THE IMAGE QUALITY AND SMOOTH AND KEEP SOME STABILITY FOR THE PERFORMANCE DROP.
7- Good / High Quality SoundCard users big_smile this is your place as well, im a lover of the sound i cant enjoy anything about watching movies or videos or playing video games if the sound does not make me feel that im almost there, i also like the music since im kid so i think i have a good ears to detect and config the sound for the best and extreme experience only if we have the proper hardware. So i will share with you my best recommendations for the ultimate sound experience while watching your fav Movies + SVP.
8- My personal recommendations for LCD LED TVs those with 120Hz or more users ( like me ) using PotPlayer + SVP. Of course we going to use SVP for Smooth only + my PotPlayer / SVP settings recommendations.

First steps i will show you:
1- All the necessary you need for complete this guide.
2- Installations.
3- My personal PotPlayer configurations.
4- Sound.
5- Extras. Note: my personal settings for High Quality and Extreme Quality for Video and Audio.
6- My personal SVPs custom profiles.

1- All the necessary you need
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS USE x86 versions! Even if you use a 64-bit OS.

1- SVP Lite 3.1.2 or better.
2- Haali Media Splitter 1.11.288.0 or better. Recommendation from RIMSKY.
3- MadVR v0.82.5 or better. ( portable version is recommended ).
4- The recommended FFDSHOW x86 versions provided by SVP or better.
5- Lastest estable PotPlayer x86 + lastest updates.
6- Avisynth v2.5.8 or better. Better use the ones provided by SVP only
7- Minimum required Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 512mb ( 1Gb recommended ), However, for best quality, a NVIDIA GeForce video Card 400 or 500 or 600 Series is recommended. AMD ATI equivalent can also be used.
8- Creative Sound Blaster Sound Card or better. This is obligatory if you want the best Sound Quality for your 5.1ch speaker setup.
9- Lav Filters v0.51.3 x86 or better portable version if you want. You just need it to be installed but not in use with PotPlayer, its better for MPC. Recommendation from RIMSKY
10- Windows 7.

2- Installation

Please install in this order:
(Note: if you can not see file extensions like "Install.bat", please google the following: show file name extensions windows 7)

1- Install PotPlayer x86 or better and fallowing this settings:
http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/a/e/x/xaexcguwrzpewxfjkkrmy_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/e/h/o/xehoqnl0iqiruc48tmz_t.jpg
2- Install FFDSHOW x86 or better
http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/w/i/h/xwihsfqsq0b9o6n46fugv_t.jpg
3- Install Avisynth v2.5.8 or better ( only recommended by SVP ).
4- Install MadVR v0.82.5 x86 or better. In this guide I will use, and recommend, the portable version. If you use the portable version, create one folder wherever you want, and name it anything you want, uncompress the rar, copy the madVR vx.xx x86 Folder and paste it in the new folder you created.
Example i created the folder in My Videos and name it " External Filters for PotPlayer " http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/t/f/c/xtfc5qnv641wdyb8up8e_t.jpg
Now go to the madVR folder you just created and find " install.bat " file, Right click on install.bat and left click " Run as administrator " You may also have to run madHcCtrl.exe, and in tray icon settings, choose "Show icon when madVR is running on local PC"
http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/g/r/7/xgr7d768vaqz65yaacorr_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/w/9/i/xw9i0f2oqpo479vf2o85o_t.jpg
5- Install Haali Media Splitter.
6- Install SVP Lite v3.1.2 or better.
Note: Q: why im not using SVP Full version for this guide?
A: SVP Full version works very good for those one that are looking for an easy install with all-in-one, then play and thats all. But i use the Lite version because im constantly updating for example FFDSHOW, MadVR, Lav Filters and PotPlayer everytime there is one new release about them, this also helped me to do a manual install and configure all to my own, something that im inviting you to do to see how it work and how it going

Note: Leave this for the end. First you need to setup PotPlayer, once its properly configured then install SVP to continue the guide and start to use SVP.

3- PotPlayer configurations

1- Launch PotPlayer, go to " PREFERENCES " ( F5 ), in " PREFERENCES " change " Built-in DXVA Decoder " to " Built-in Self DXVA Decoder " , there in General > General Settings > Tray Icon change to " Show with taskbar " and Click OK.
http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/z/2/5/xz25hjbonv51d7gesy96l_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/x/u/4/xxu45aait48jf7qzxyb8_t.jpg
2- Playback any FullHD 1080p or 720p video or movie you have for a moment and make sure to see how much performance and low cpu usage you have. It can be any Clip from Trailers or Movies in mkv or any AVCHD, etc. Note: Remember you need a VIDEO CARD that supports DXVA for DXVA to work. Google: DXVAChecker if you are unsure.
3- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Filter Control > Built-in Video processing filter > Condition change to " Always Use ( Recommended ) ". Also make sure that " Use Audio processing filters " is enabled. Press " APPLY ".http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/n/1/u/xn1uedafzpf3zjcmt864_t.jpg.
4- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Subtitle and Disable " Show subtitles" . I prefer FFDSHOW to handle subtitles.
5- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Filter Control > Source/Splitter > Source/Splitter Filter > add " Haali Media Splitter " > Example of how to add Registered Filters:
I will add the registered Haali Media Splitter as required above and use it as Splitter(s) for some file types.
http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/y/n/k/xynkmg504mkz93g9dseo_t.jpghttp://img.overpic.net/thumbs/a/v/m/xavm6pqr50zt1yqv185f4_t.jpghttp://img.overpic.net/thumbs/7/b/l/x7blie908l7xxe8zejgg_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/s/z/b/xszbxt6284wpgru5ssj4_t.jpg
Note: apart of MKV and MP4, you can set it for MPEG2 TS, MPEG2 PS, MPEG 1 and AVI ( Built-in AVI Source/Splitter work good as well ). This is what you need to do anytime you want to add X registered filters and dont forget to associate them properly or you will cause much troubles later.
6- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Filter Control > Custom Filter Manager > Add Registered Filter > add " ffdshow raw video filter " then Click OK, it will be added in the list of " Custom Filter Manager " . There in " Custom Filter Manager " , select the " ffdshow raw video filter " then go to " Priority " set it to " PREFER " http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/5/c/i/x5ciaew9bta00m4slu0x4_t.jpg, Click " APPLY ".
While you are still there, in " Custom Filter Manager " , select " ffdshow raw video filter " and double click on it, now do only what is shown in these images:
http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/1/j/0/x1j0j78jcd4thqbzdxxn_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/n/s/l/xnslnpqpmjod7ts4vlh7j_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/w/e/3/xwe38n0eknc233i6fftj_t.jpg
Note: IS OBLIGATORY TO SET " FFDSHOW RAW VIDEO FILTER " AS THE IMAGES SHOWN OR SVP WILL NOT WORK.
7- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Filter Control > Video Decoder > http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/n/d/7/xnd7ora461jnm6iqx8162_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/u/s/d/xusds8di6155wgzxkn99_t.jpg.
8- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Filter Control > Audio Decoder > http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/4/y/2/x4y2spe81t3zkqct52hm9_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/8/1/x/x81x97nrf45k63483y2yf_t.jpg.
9- VIDEO RENDERER

Case 1:
-If your CPU is Dual Core and better with the specs / type / overclocking as i recommended for Dual Core users.
-If your Video Card(s) is less than NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 for example. In the worse case something like me sad lol same or less than NVIDIA GTS 250 1Gb
-If you are using the Lastest Nvidia Drivers.

THEN do this:
Use MadVR as Video Renderer.

Settings for MadVR fallowing the Cases above:

1- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Video > Video Renderer > Video renderer change to " Madshi Video Renderer " then click " APPLY " http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/w/9/w/xw9wa301olhnxz1dkkziw_t.jpg.
2- Now lets configure madVR, the first thing you need to do is play any file, then pause it, go to the task bar, where the sound, network icons, etc are, and right click on the madVR tray icon, and left click on " Edit madVR Settings " and only change what is shown in the following images:
http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/v/7/v/xv7viau0ls0uxkd72zxp7_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/v/c/d/xvcdwtzs66iqg93xfktm_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/3/a/u/x3au1zdpeozku045gal47_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/w/i/0/xwi03scepv4l8tvrcelw_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/3/l/e/x3lejr02ltzf67qi1y_t.jpg.
OK THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART SO BE SURE TO READ THIS: Please, " If your video card is older than a Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 or AMD ATI equivalent " then do this:
http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/4/u/j/x4uj5mqihwime3vx45oos_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/y/0/t/xy0tkonpeux7ti1y3an1r_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/d/x/7/xdx7785po9veckdy9czlb_t.jpg

By the way take this in consideration:
-The CHROMA UPSCALING 'sharpness' or 'steps' setting can't be less than Luma Upscaling, and Luma Downscaling , this is my recommendation.
-The more Sharpness or Steps you use, the more Quality you get, BUT, MORE GPU CYCLES WILL BE USED, so make sure that your GPU is powerful enough to handle those high settings when combined with SVP. I recommend that you start with the values on the images at first, and later you can try more. Remember those higher settings will cost you more GPU performance.
-Scale in linear light on Luma Upscaling and Luma Downscaling will cost you a lot of GPU Performance so these settings are for powerful GPUS only.
-When using MadVR the video color settings from your video card drivers are not working, so if you want to use video color settings for your media you can set gamma with MadVR. You can set gamma, color and more with FFDSHOW without any problem, it will cost you some CPU usage depending of what settings and values you are trying to apply.

If your video card is Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 or AMD ATI equivalent or better and you still want to use / try MadVR then do this:

http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/y/w/4/xyw4mgj4ysvxt9eagtsf_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/8/3/z/x83zado2ymo0mt7m846tk_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/8/q/i/x8qivj6rv0g4yo3bw77b_t.jpg

Q: Why NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 or AMD ATi equivalent and not for example sad NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 big_smile come on i think its good righ o_O ?
A: Ok use NVIDIA GTX 470 only is not obligatory headache and for your economy, but because this is the High Quality Guide part, wee need something not so much slower because we want save all the GPU usage we can to give more Priority to SVP big_smile for more SMOOTHER playback using more settings on your custom SVP profiles that are more GPU demanding for any media type and if we can big_smile use some extra shaders cool to enhanced some or much more the Image Quality that means much better for your demanding eyes smile and tastes. You have to admit, if you are in this part of this Guide is because you want all the best smooth and image quality you can get right? at any cost even if your PC have to pay and cry to fill your hungry for QUALITY!!! and if you cant stand artifacts. Ok there is some Shaders that use more CPU than GPU and viceversa but both are balanced, both are needing.

By the way take this into consideration:

Case 2:

-If your CPU and more in especial your GPU are POWERFUL enough.
-If you use the lastest Nvidia Drivers.
-Your CPU is powerful and well-overclocked ( if is that case ) and my GPU(s) as well, then you want to free all CPU usage you can for give more Priority to SVP for more smoothing playback, less artifacts.

THEN do this:
1- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Video > Video Renderer > Video renderer change to " EVR Custom Present " then click " APPLY " http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/9/w/i/x9wiuow2bbg5j8wnxxq2_t.jpg.
Note: When using EVR Custom Present as Video Renderer, the video color settings from your video card drivers work without problem so you can apply anything you want on it, it will also give you very high CPU performance but very high GPU usage ( much more and worse with older GPUs ) this can compromise a lot SVP performance at the end giving you annoying Smoothing playback with OLDER GPU only. As i said using it with lastest powerful GPUs it will ok.
2- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Video > do this: http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/8/3/7/x8371ud70szidqu55ob1_t.jpg http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/m/9/y/xm9yyd4vj3dc5zpuudmb3_t.jpg
3- Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Filter Control > Built-in Video processing filter > Condition change to " Always Use ( Recommended ) ". Also make sure that " Use Audio processing filters " is enabled. Press " APPLY ".http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/n/1/u/xn1uedafzpf3zjcmt864_t.jpg.

4- AUDIO

Fallowing this settings only

-If your internal or external Sound Card is old.
-If your CPU is older.
-If you want more than normal Audio Quality.
-If you have 2.1 or 5.1ch speakers setup.

THEN do this:

1- If you don't have a Sound Card like Creative, but have just an Integrated Sound Card ( Realtek ) then do this:
-Set " Audio Renderer " to " Default DirectSound Device " and if you want to use the " S/PDIF-Out " then set " DirectSound: XXXX " where XXXX is the SPDIF-OUT of your Soundcard.
-If your Realtek Sound Card supports 24 bits then right after " Speakers " set it to 24-Bit or 32-Bit (real) and if this gives you audio artifacts, then set it back to 24 or just leave it at 16.
-If you have a 5.1 speaker setup for your PC I recommend you leave " Speakers " as " Same as input " this means that every time you playback a file that is in Stereo, then it will set your output to stereo, if the file uses 5.1ch audio, it will set your output to 5.1ch automatically. Now if you always want to listen to everything using your 5.1 speakers then change it to " 3/0/2+LFE - 5.1 channel ". However, doing this will cost you some audio quality ( if you have a good ear and notice such of things ), leave the Speakers output to the " same as input " as recommended by me ( no noticeable loss of audio quality ). If you have a 2.1ch speaker setup, then set " Speakers " to " Dolby Surround/Pro Logic ".

-Resample: leave it set to " Same as input (recommended) " ,I don't recommend you Resample if your CPU is slow or not. You will not notice much of a difference ( if you don't have a good ear for Sound ) if you do Resample, this will cost you more performance, especially if you do 96000Hz / High

Quality, but if you do have a good ear, and notice the quality difference with the Sounds, then try 48000Hz then 96000Hz and use the best for you. But keep an eye on your CPU usage. In my case leaving it set to " Same as input " sounds pretty good, if the file come with 48 then it will automatically use 48, if it come with 96 then it will use 96 and so on ( untouched means original Quality).
-Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Audio then click on " Built-in audio dec.settings ", there UNTICK " Dymanic Range Compression ".

2-If you have a Creative Sound card, then do this:

-Set " Audio Renderer " to " your Creative Sound Card " and if you want to use the " S/PDIF-Out " then set " SPDIF-Out (XXXX) " where XXXX is the name SPDIF-OUT of your Soundcard.
-If your Creative Sound Card support 24 bits then right after " Speakers " set it to 32-Bit or 24-Bit real ( i recommend this one ) and if get audio artifacts then set it back to 24. See image for example.
-If you have a 5.1 speakers setup for your PC I recommend you leave " Speakers " as " Same as input " this means that every time you playback a file that is in Stereo, then it will set your output to stereo, if the file uses 5.1ch audio, it will set your output to 5.1ch automatically. If you have a 2.1ch speaker setup, then set " Speakers " to " Dolby Surround/Pro Logic " See image for example.
Note: When i say possible loss of audio quality, I mean for example in my case I leave it as same as input & I hear all my files very good using the original output, but if I manually change the speaker setup to x/x/x+LFE - x.x channel ( where xs are the channels ) I can hear a little loss in quality, a little less details in the audio in some parts. I don't recommend or use them. I just use the x/x/x+LFE - x.x channel setup I recommended in case i want to hear everything on my Logitech G51 5.1ch whether the file(s) come with stereo or multichannel, except for that exception I always leave it as " Same as input ". You need to try for yourself to see what happens in your case, otherwise leave it according to your taste.

-Resample: leave it set to " Same as input (recommended) " ,I don't recommend you Resample if your CPU is slow. You will not notice much of a difference ( if don't have a good ear for Sound ) if you do Resample, this will cost you more performance, especially if you do 96000Hz / High Quality, but if you do have a good ear, and notice the quality difference with the Sounds, then try 48000Hz then 96000Hz and use the best for you. But keep an eye on your CPU usage. In my case leaving it set to " Same as input " sounds pretty good, if the file come with 48 then it will automatically use 48, if it come with 96 then it will use 96 and so on ( untouched means original Quality).
-Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Audio then click on " Built-in audio dec.settings ", there UNTICK " Dynamic Range Compression ".
-If your Creative Sound Card supports " X-Fi CMSS-3D " then enable it in your Creatives Console Launcher / Entertainment and go to Audio > Reverb Settings and Untick this " Extended stereo sound " and " Extended surround sound ".
-Go to Preferences ( F5 ) > Audio > Volume control > AC3/DTS gain decoding and enable it and in " Gain quantity " set it to 1.0 dB. You can toy with this till you get the best audio for your taste but high values there will make your sound pretty noisy, and annoying artifacts. I mean the default setting of 20.0 dB is annoying.

5- EXTRAS

I will leave this for the end, my idea was create the main steps for start using PotPlayer + SVP without go insane with the Extreme and High Quality that could destroy or cause you much problems without set up SVP first. My recommendation always is keep you busy trying to adjust the most and basic steps to start to use PotPlayer, create some of compatibility first, once you are done adding it to your system, with all that free resourses that we want to give more to SVP first than anything, now we can work with SVP first and at the end if more Resourses are free then lets go Extreme smile.

Hi berryracer check this out:

- LAV Video Decoder is recommended for MPC becouse MPC internal filters does not support DXVA2 copy-back decoding.
But PotPlayer internal decoders support it, so sensibly to use internal PotPlayers DXVA2 decoders instead LAV Video Decoders.
Becouse it good for stability reduce filters between videofile and FFDShow RAW
- This is from RIMSKY ( SVP Team ), its his recommendation and he is right. PotPlayer not need it.

about Cuda, if you remember im Nvidia user, check this link http://www.svp-team.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=24097 , last POST, there is some new settings i was testing that refert to  CUDA, try it by yourself and tell us how its going.

Thank you for using my Guide and if it work for you that makes me happy smile.

Greetings.

MakeN

Greetings to you all guys and SVP Team big_smile.

Today i was experimenting with somethings and i want to show you all what it was.. i can say that im kinda happy with the results until now.

Again this is my PC specs:

http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/h/c/9/xhc9saxl3bz3fm5m4hghh_s.png

i have lowered some my CPU overclocking to do and demostrate more the quality of the test.

I was testing some movies that were encoded at some popular Frames and resolutions, like for example 23.976 fps, 24 fps, 25 fps and 29.97 fps at 1280x720, 1280x544, 1280x536, 1920x1080 and 1920x800. Using my Guide, new settings, SVP off and on, EVR CP, Nvidia driver 304.79 and Custom SVP Profiles for each kind of Resolution / Frames based of my system.

Here the results:

Note: the screenshots were taking WITHOUT PAUSE THE MOVIE, it was in real time while the file(s) playing.

This time i was using EVR CP and not MadVR, changed the PotPlayers Built-in Video Decoder - FFmpeg Decoder Type 2 for H264/AVC1 to PotPlayers Nvidia Cuda Decoder http://img.overpic.net/thumbs/y/6/q/xy6qi9qbp7xghdyw4qr_s.jpg .Using Nvidia drivers 304.79 and my custom Video Color Settings ( Nvidias Video Color Settings ) to enhance the image quality.

Ok this is pretty good for me, before and like i said many times use EVR CP + lastest Nvidia video drivers with my actual PC was very problematic, then MadVR was my only solution helping me to keep my SVPs custom profiles on those file types. I see that Nvidia video drivers 304.79 are good for me, also i discover that using PotPlayers Nvidia Cuda Decoder give me better performance and for my eyes i can see better smooth quality, maybe it does not have much sense for some of you all but for my eyes its, you should try it by yourself to see if you can spot the effect as i do. Believe me comparing the settings from my Guide and adding this new settings / test for me is better and i will keep testing more on it to see how it going. I have months without can use EVR CP as Video Renderer using previous drivers until that one ( 304.79 ) and my actual GPUs / CPU.

I said as well that using for example Half Pixel (disable) and 16 px. Average 0 on SVP with 1080p, was very problematic, sometimes impossible, i have to use less settings to can have more performance and make it playable. As you can see on the screenshots in my test i was able at least to use One Pixel and 16 px. Average 0, but it was giving me sometimes while playing the file high spikes on one GPU and that time when it happen i noticed framedrop for less of one second and everything back to normal again. Its ok, normal, not fault of SVP no no, is my PC smile.

IF YOU ALL PEOPLES WANT TO TRY THIS AS WELL, PLEASE POST HERE ALL YOUR RESULTS. Thanks.

Ok, I tried your profile settings and they work well

my CPU is a 2500K @ 4.5 GHz and my GPU is GTX680 and I have 8GB of DDR-1600 memory, so absolutely no performance drop no matter which setting I'm using.

What I'm looking? Quality. I have a powerful PC that should be able to handle every setting I throw at it. I want the best image quality I can get without artifacts and high to near perfect smoothing from SVP.
Help me with that

Right now with your profile my CPU usage is about 50-60%, btw you're right Half Pizel with Refinement scribbles the FPS and there is a big performance drop, so I disabled refinement and I switched to Half Pixel, I now realized that Half Pizel is higher than 2 pixels and that's why CPU usage is higher with this on.

Also, with the profile you suggested I see that my CPU usage curve is much more steady and there are no spikes like in my previous screenshots.

My GPU usage with EVR is at around 30%, are there any EVR settings I can set for this renderer? What about DXVA? Is there somewhere I can set it to CUVID like in LAV?

Thanks

smile ok then lets " throw at it " at you said and dont worry much about your CPU and GPU usages, if its the same as before or more but if it Worth then no care much about that, thats why you have that PC right? if its powerful then lets use all that power all we can to provide the quality you are after. I have high usages on my CPU and GPUs all the time, but thats ok it worth, worse is that it were for nothing only to create annoying problems than entertaiment.

I need your help and well all of us need your help, you have to put your part finding and toying with settings as well to can find the Quality you are after fallowing the settings and upcoming settings from my Guide then later show us your results to can compare ok?

About Half Pixel (default) i told you big_smile it cost more peformance, huge on slow PCs, but in your case you must use it big_smile so no Two pixels, no One Pixel, use Half Pixel for all your profiles because you said big_smile your pc is powerful enought right? Thats important and good setting to use all the time if you can. Dont use Refinement until you dont know how it work and you can notice the effect, for more info about it ask to SVP Team.

About extra settings for EVR CP leave it for the end, concentrate now only on SVP, find smooth quality you want then later we go for Image Quality ( extra ).
About LAV Filters, its better for Media Player HC. PotPlayer and my Guide not need it.

Thanks.

Greetings Zachn, how you been? smile

I tell you again friend, that is normal the profile you was using or were set on the SVP by default was based automaticaly on your CPU Type / performance. If your CPU type / performance are old / slow then SVP will set lower profile settings to adjust to your system performance, more powerful is your CPU and GPU then more settings will and must be set to take advantage of it, provide better smooth and image quality at cost of high hardware utilization. For example in one game more filters, textures, antialiasing and resolution you use more quality you get at cost of performance, lower settings provides high performance at cost in lost of image quality. This is hard decition that depend on users and it possibilities, you have to keep that in mind, what you really want?

Thanks for the screenshot it is always the best way and it have to be for better understanding.

Ok about your profile i think its ok for your PC but in my case i cant use that XD impossible, those are settings that are demanding but worth, i dont recommend you useTwo pixels taking in mind the power of your PC, you should try at least One pixel or better, that settings cost high CPU usage but it worth, it minimize some artifacts and not sacrifice smooth. I recommend you better use Half pixel (default) all the time  because your pc can handle it, my pc does only with 720p and it provide better smooth in special in fast escenes.

Uniform (max smoothenss) it provide the max as it says smoothenss but give you more artifacts, to lower some of it you need to max some settings that will cost you more CPU and GPU usages at even with that some artifacts can be spotted and annoying for some peoples. I think use it if you dont care artifacts and you just want very high smoothenss and feel like if it were playing one video game at constant 60 fps without any drop in motion with all kind of escenes. There is for me other ways to give almost the same it does combining other settings. I recommend you leave it in Adaptive (default).

By two with global refinemen like it says, its extreme heavy operation and is true, impossible for me to use it with my actual hardware, i think this with Half pixel (default) help some with artifacts when you are using Uniform (max smoothenss) but those two settings in combination are heavy CPU usage, thats the price for smooth as i told you before, change / lower those settings will reduce your CPU usage at cost of less or different smooth quality compared with the settings of your profile ( screenshot ). I recommend you leave it in Disable (default) first while you still dont know when to use it and spot it effects.

About why EVR CP use more GPU i will explain you in my experience ok? in old days with some old Nvidia Drivers the OpenCL and it performance was greater compared with the lastest drivers using EVR CP, something that was affecting me a lot sad, my performance decreased so much with the new changes, ruining my old settings and performance with SVP so i found MadVR the only solution until now. I was with two Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb in SLi, then changed both by Two Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1gb in SLi and the problem was still present. If i apply my personal Guide on one recent system ( much much better than mine of course ) using EVR CP the results are ok not problems, but in my case it does not, high CPU spikes and constantly SVPs messages showing me performance drop and insane GPUs usage making play some file almost impossible with Medium / High settings on my profiles sad ( check out some old pages from this thread and you will see ). MadVR minimized so much my annoying performance drop using EVR CP on those GPUs, also it was providing me new and high image quality with DVDs and 720p saving me to use some shaders ( for enhance image quality ) that will cost me more CPU usage that can affect my performance with SVP ( even using my well overclocked Core 2 Duo ). As i said on my Guide use MadVR if your GPU is old / slow, to save some CPU usage ( if you configure it well ) and enhanced image quality of some DVDs and 720p files. If your GPU(s) are new / faster then you can use EVR CP even with the bad performance with OpenCL on the lastest Nvidia Drivers that are still provinding, bad performance that your recent and powerful GPU will handle without much problems. If your GPU(s) are more recent and poweful than your CPU, MadVR can be use as well to prior all you can to GPU(s), free more resourses to CPU ideal for SVP and your X custom profile settings.

Try this and tell me if you like

I ask you again what you really want? Smooth Quality or Performance ?

Highest Smooth Quality with less or not so much artifacts + highest image quality = Huge performance drop / hardware use, price that worth for the goal.
Highest Smooth Performance = Performance with huge or noticeable / annoying quality LOST, price to pay and needed for slower / old Hardware.
Balanced between Quality and Performance = dedication and advanced users. Practice, patient, well system overclocks to pushing much more your hadware capabilities, take advantage of it.

Good luck and thanks.
