Hmm, it shouldn't be crashing. Usually, when the syntax is wrong, I just get a red error message. Also, it's weird that reinstalling didn't fix it... Is there anything weird about the test video you're using?

I don't know where your Svp directory is, but it should be there, at the default install location, right?

I know this isn't a solution, but have you considered using mpv instead?  Svp performs better with it, it does everything MPC+MadVR does, and ffdshow/avisynth aren't involved which means it'll probably get around the issues you're having.

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for, I'll try it in a bit. I might skip adaptivesharpen though.

I just looked through user scripts, and interestly, MVTool's interpolation is in there too.

Like so:

Figuring out what to configure in the first place is a PITA though, and information is scattered. That MPV GUI can't get done soon enough.

I should also mention that SVP does work better with MPV. I can set 2 smaller block sizes than with MPC.

I'm not "handy with command line and/or coding" and I found the online how-to pages for MPV incomprehensible. If its going to be a royal PITA to set up properly, which is what it looks like so far, then I'll just stick with Potplayer 64bit for now. Thanks anyway guys.

Just make a shortcut to MPV, and add that line. It's not too hard.

Out of curiosity, what PC games are locked at 30 FPS these days? Last one I played was From Dust, and that's pretty old.

"The only way" for what? Recent CPUs can handle any source up to 4K@30fps...

Not at small block sizes though.

My OC'd 4670k isn't top end, but I'd say it's way above average, and it struggles at 1080p with smaller block sizes.

Also, doesn't AMD have something called "clear motion"? I force enabled it recently, but I didn't see any visual difference in the video players I tried.

If that ^ doesn't work, open a video, right click the red FFDshow box in your task bar, then click on "raw video filter".

Last time I had the "no active playback" problem, the text in that box was missing for some reason.

If it's missing, try copying what I have in there, or just uninstall all of SVP's components and then reinstall it.

Hey Chainik, any simple advice on how to get MPV to play 5.1 audio?

Have you tried launching it with "--audio-channels=auto"?

Also, I realize this isn't exactly the most relevant forum for configuring MPV... if so, what is?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge here, but I'm just now investigating the new ANGLE thing in MPV... what arguments should I be using with SVP's MPV?

This is what I've used in the past:

 --input-ipc-server=mpvpipe --vo=opengl-hq:scale=ewa_lanczossharp:interpolation:tscale=catmull_rom:tscale-clamp --alang=en,eng --audio-channels=auto -video-sync=display-resample -video-sync-max-video-change=10

I want:

  • The ReClock-like audio renderer

  • Jinc scaling

  • Audio channels matched to the content itself

  • Auto select english language

  • Debanding

  • Black bars if it only has to resize the image by a few pixels

I've got most of that so far, but I don't know anything about ANGLE, and if I should be using DirectX over OpenGL on Windows.

I saw that NNEDI3 was moved to an external shader. I don't know anything about that and don't need it now, but enabling it would be nice too.

Any suggestions?

Hmm... I might consider then. That being said, truth is my computer is just barely good enough to run SVP at the max setting on the slider.

SVP benchmarks your system when it first sets itself up, and changes the default setting accordingly. The max slider setting will always be difficult to run tongue

Correct me if I'm wrong (havent tried free SVP in ages), but SVP Pro also gets your vapoursynth/mpv SVP. It's more efficient, as I can use smaller (smoother) block sizes than I can with regular SVP.

I know this question was answered a long time ago... but that was when Netflix used Silverlight, and before Vapoursynth SVP was a thing.

Is it possible to play Netflix with SVP? Preferably with the Windows Store app? Is there a SVP-compatible video player that supports Netflix?

Unless I use some program/service that rips the raw video output (which would hurt quality more than I'd like), I'm 95% sure the answer is "no"... but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Pictures with SVPmark results from online database attached below.

When's the last time SVPMark was updated?

I'm not saying it isn't relevant (using the old version means new tests are comparable to older ones), but updating it to use the most recent SVP libraries at some point would be nice smile

You're talking about the SVP 4 quality slider?

When you first run SVP, it "benchmarks" your system to determine the default settings. Since your R9 290 is faster, it might set the default settings to something higher. So "very high" on your 550 TI would actually be a lower setting than "very high" on your R9 290.

This is assuming you use the same CPU... SVP is basically CPU limited, so if your 550 TI is paired with a faster CPU, it should perform better.

Is there any way to do this in MPV?

166

(5 replies, posted in Using SVP)

You really don't need a codec pack... that's what SVP is, in essence.

Between LAV splitter, MadVR, Reclock, SVP, your video player of choice, and (optionally) XYSubFilter, you shouldn't need to install or change anything else at all. SVP includes everything but an external subtitle renderer, which is easy to install yourself.

Or better yet, just install 64-bit MPV, start it with the right arguments, and thats it. It does everything MPC + all the extras used to do, but does so with better performance so I can crank up the SVP settings.

SMPlayer is in active development so there're good chances if someone will post a feature request...

Are they on Github?

If ya'll don't do it, I might make the request at some point. I'm suprised they haven't implemented it already, TBH.

Cool... But I can't help but feel that anyone knowledgable enough to use SVP 4 Pro isn't gonna be using VLC. I certainly won't tongue

But if it helps spread the glory of SVP to the masses, then I'm all for it!

Question: Will this always be a "Pro" feature, or will it make its way into the free version when stable?

Ok. I gave mpv a run ... and I'm not quite impressed. I didn't bother with SMPlayer but loaded the test movie directly in mpv. SPV activates itself but with the standard conf file the playback is far from being fluid, in fact is more like slow motion exactly the opposite to a hfr movie or maybe my poor Intel NUC is far from being capable .... I've also looked upon creating profiles for different sort of movies, selecting different scalers and man it's quite cumbersome compared to madVR so I gave up on it for now. In x86 chain with MPC-HC + LAV Filters + madVR + SVP + ReClock I have perfect playback now with 1 drop frame every couple of hours.

MPV is more CPU-efficient for me. On my 4670k, I can usually knock the block size setting down 2 settings from what I use in MadVR/MPC and still get fluid playback, which makes motion look noticeably smoother.

It's just a PITA to configure, relatively speaking. It has MadVR-like scalers and Reclock-like audio/video sync, but those parameters have to be added manually via launch options in a shortcut or into a config file on Windows.

Someone really needs to make a decent MPV GUI hmm. We have SMPlayer, but it doesn't add any GUI for configuring MPV.

Did you ever try using CRU?

It always worked better than AMD's native utility for me. Also, 144hz might look wierd because SVP isn't keeping up, as the build-in benchmark doesn't take your screen's refresh rate into account.

171

(7 replies, posted in Using SVP)

If you use MPC, SVP just converts it to 60FPS in real time and outputs in to your display. It doesn't save more than a couple of frames of video.

If you want to save it, I think you need to use another program.

Does ":interpolation:tscale=catmull_rom:tscale-clamp" set the scaling algorithm, or something else? I'm already using Jinc.

These are my current arguments:

 --input-ipc-server=mpvpipe --vo=opengl-hq:scale=ewa_lanczossharp:tscale-clamp --alang=en,eng --no-sub --sid=no --audio-channels=auto -video-sync=display-resample -video-sync-max-video-change=10

Well SVP is moving to MPV/VapourSynth anyway, right? No need to rewrite ffdshow just for SVP.

try with svp3. btw if u have pro version u can use reclock like effect in mpv.

MPV is new to me, what argument do you add for the Reclock effect?

Oh boy, here we go.

For what it's worth, I hope ya'll work something out. GPL licenses deserve to be respected, but no-one wants to see all of SVP's work and awesomeness go down over a license issue.

@Blackfyre
I agree, I think this should be a private discussion. But Fizick might want the discussion to be public since it's a GPL license issue, not 100% sure.
