can you explain what you mean when you say " I've ditched the original method of using SVP, and I only use NVFLOW"?

thanks!

Yep that's normal. What NVOF is doing is taking the load off the CPU and doing most of it on the GPU. So your GPU usage increases.

Which CPU do you have by the way? I am wondering why you're struggling to run 4K. What frame rate are you running it in? And what SVP settings are you using?

thanks for your reply blackfyre....

i was under the impression that optical flow reduced both cpu and gpu significantly when using svp, is that not the case?

at the moment i can't seem to get avisynth (or vapoursynth) to work with svp, but it does work with ffdshow, thing is cpu and gpu usage seems to be the same regardless if i have optical flow enabled or disabled in svp...

for example, here are the stats for a 1080p / 24 fps file - screen display is set to 3840 / 59 hz, madvr + svp in use, lots of dropped frames if i let it run... top image nvof enabled, bottom image disabed:

https://i.postimg.cc/QM2mfctw/z01.png

and here are the stats with madvr disabled, not much better - again, top is nvof enabled, bottom is disabled:

my cpu is an i7 as follows:

so what exactly are you trying to say with this comment? why so cryptic?

actually chainik, i haven't checked my svp log, will do.... a question tho: if i have svp's osd enabled, should i see the svp popup when starting a video? when it's enabled i do see it when i use ffdshow but not when i use avusynth or vapoursynth, is it possible that svp is working even if the svp popup doesn't display? thanks!

Chainik wrote:

Then it means there's some error, probably in NVOF initialization, and PotPlayer's "direct interface" doesn't handle script errors correctly - this's why you don't see any error in SVP's log.
Switch back to ffdshow, check log for errors.

if i use ffdshow svp works, the svp logo displays for a couple of seconds when video is launched, and player frame rate info confirms increased frame rates.

but when i try to use avisynth or vapoursynth nothing happens even tho svp shows that it's active and that frame rates are doubled when i mouse over the svp icon - also the svp logo doesn't flash when i launch a video like it does when i use ffdshow and cpu usage is the same as it is when i have svp disabled.

i would just go ahead and use ffdshow but the cpu usage is very high even tho i have optical flow enabled, n fact the cpu usage is the same whether i have nvof enabled or disabled (i reboot svp when i tested each setting).

svp > settings > potplayer > native = true
svp > settings > potplayer > prefer_avisynth = true (for avisynth) or false for vapoursynth
ffdshow disabled in potplayer
potplayer shows avisynth or vapoursynth as active (checked) depending on the above settings

any help would be appreciated!

thanks chainik

so what exactly is optical flow?

are there settings for it in the nvidia control panel?
can it interpolate without a program like svp?
to use it with svp, you have to enable the setting within svp?
and if this setting isn't enabled it won't be used?

i stopped using svp (paid version) a while ago because even with my setup (2080 ti + i7 3.6) my system struggled mightily with 4k content+ madvr settings.

instead i've been downscaling everything to 1080p with madvr and letting my projector handle interpolation and upscale to 4k which my system handles just fine regardless of the madvr settings i use.

but i just stumbled across optcal flow and after reading the threads here it seems that i might be able to go back to svp + madvr and not have to downscale everything to 1080p given optical flow's performance savings ability.

so how do i enable optical flow? i've looked in the nvidia control panel settings but can't seem to find anything... i also downloaded the sdk but don't know how to use it? or is optical flow automatically installed and used simply by installing my card's driver?

any help would be very much appreciated!

so what would be the best way to set up an htpc + madvr + svp for ripped movies (almost all 24fps)?

- set the gpu to 23hz or 59hz?
- set madvr dislay modes to 23, 59, both, none?

i'm planning to madvr to upscale everything to 4k.

thank you in advance.

ok, something is going on with potplayer + avisynth, getting a black screen + audio, with or without madvr... everything worked fine when  i was using intel's integrated graphics, but now that i've updated my system ath includes a nvidia 2080 ti card i can't get things to work...

in svp application settings i have native and prefer_avisynth set to true, and priority set to 1... i have svp gpu acceleration set to my card (have also tried "use optic flow" on and off), lav filters set to nvidia cuvid (also tried dxva2 (copy-back), dxva2 (native) and d3d11, and gave built-in video decoder config (potplayer) set to use dxva, prioritize d3d11 dxva, dxva2 copy-back = d3d11: my card.

that link doesn't explain why i would be getting a black screen and audio with avisynth?

am really liking the job madvr does tone mapping hdr > sdr but it doesn't seem to work with svp? if i use ffdshow raw video filter madvr tone mapping doesn't work, and if i use native (avisynth) i get audio but a black screen... am i doing something wrong or is this just the nature of the beast?

potplayer, nvidia drivers, 2080 ti card, madvr tone map pixel shaders, windows 10 - svp application settings are set to potplayer native = true, prefer_avisynth = true... here's what what avisynth settings look like in potplayer, is this correct?

after some more testing i've found that "prefer_avisynth = true" displays strange colors (over saturated / over contrasted) when i play hdr files only if "try to recover hdr colors (directshow)" is enabled...

with "prefer_avisynth = false", enabling or disabling "try to recover hdr colors (directshow)" has no impact, the image remains the same with either setting, and it looks the same as  "prefer_avisynth = true" with "try to recover hdr colors (directshow)" disabled.

as mentioned earlier, i'm using madvr (hdr passthrough) with svp / potplayer.

21

(18 replies, posted in Using SVP)

finding that avisynth causes some very strange colors with hdr....

22

(18 replies, posted in Using SVP)

so i reset all of the filter control settings in potplayer from lav to "built-in decoder (recommended)" and everything is working as it should with svp direct, in fact svp direct now works with either avisynth and vapoursynth, just a matter of setting "prefer_avisnth" to true or false in utilities settings....

so, a couple of question:

- does it matter which one i use, avisynth or vapoursynth, is one better than the other?
- am i missing out on anything by not using lav filters?

thanks!

23

(18 replies, posted in Using SVP)

yes, turning off "prefer_avisynth" (false) was one of the first things i tried, didn't solve the problem, i also tried turning on / off avisynth and vapoursynth in potplayer (preferences > video ), and that didn't work either....

i'm using madvr as my video renderer and lav filters, dxva2 (copyback).... doesn't matter if i play hd files or hdr files, same thing happens, clicking the svp taskbar icon shows "1 active video playing at 59.94 fps [x5/2]" and indicates the correct profile i set up, but the video doesn't have svp applied, nothing happens.

if i set "potplayer native" to false and use ffdshow raw video filter, everything works as it should, except i can't no longer use madvr for hdr, even with madvr set to hdr passthrough.

here's a look using direct mode:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQrelPE … e=youtu.be

25

(18 replies, posted in Using SVP)

something odd seems to be going on here....

with direct mode:

- svp icon in taskbar shows a video is active
- svp osd does not display at start of play
- the svp graph in the svp control panel shows 10%-15% load
- windows task manager shows 15%-25% cpu and gpu load
- madvr shows 0 dropped frames

using ffdshow raw video filter:

- svp icon in taskbar shows a video is active
- svp osd does display at start of play
- the svp graph in the svp control panel shows 90%+ load
- windows task manager shows 70%+ gpu load
- madvr shows rapid dropped frames

what would cause such a huge difference in performance?
