Alright I'm at wits end and can't fix this despite a system drive format and windows reinstall so...
I stumbled upon a strange bug. You know the new Lord of the Rings movies in 4k?
I tried to play a HEVC 10 bits HDR mkv encode and the strangest thing happens. The player says it is playing, when you put "information" up, the frame count goes up, no frame dropped, but the window stays black, no sound. When I hover the mouse over SVP icon, it says it's "paused".
I tried an old movie I used to be able to play without issue, another hevc 10 bit hdr mkv encode, Ender's game. Same problem. Other HEVC 10 bits hdr mkv encodes play just fine.
The heck is this?
List of files that fail to play:
The.Lord.of.the.Rings.The.Fellowship.of.the.Ring.2001.Extended.2160p.UHD.HDR.BluRay.x265.10bit.TRUEHD.ATMOS.[WMAN-LorD]
The.Lord.of.the.Rings.The.Return.of.the.King.2003.Extended.2160p.UHD.HDR.BluRay.x265.10bit.TRUEHD.ATMOS.[WMAN-LorD]
The.Lord.of.the.Rings.The.Two.Towers.2002.Extended.2160p.UHD.HDR.BluRay.x265.10bit.TRUEHD.ATMOS.[WMAN-LorD]
Ender's Game (2013) (2160p BluRay x265 HDR SAMPA)
( You can probably find those files somewhere, if not, I can arrange for a download link on request if you want to test the problem )
I haven't tried all of my movies and tv series, but so far these always fail to start using the x64 MPC-HC, they play just fine on mpv, VLC and other players. But mpv doesn't have ac3filter and vlc can't seem to use SVP's features.
I tried using madvr as output instead of the default output, nothing. I tried uninstalling madvr, nothing.
They all failed to start using default installation settings after a windows 10 format and reinstall.
********
Edit: Just tried all of them ( lav decoders ) one by one, nothing works on those files.
Default setting works fine on other 10 bit hevc hdr mkv movies.
