Topic: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

Hey guys!

I've been having some problems with SVP regarding the GPU-accelerated playback. Non-GPU playback works fine but is obviously slower :)

Whenever I try to enable OpenCL, the video starts playing, SVP works fine for some time (mostly around 1-2 minutes or so) and then the player just hangs, sound continues and I have to force Potplayer to close.
At the moment the playback crashes, SVP monitor gives me a sudden increase in memory used (from 700 to aprox. 1500+). So it seems like a memoryleak issue.

Im using PotPlayer with EVR custom preset. Haali splitter, AviSynth SVP edition etc.

Things i've tried:
- Patch PotPlayer.exe to use 4gb+
- ReloadAVSfactor = 0 (plus the patch given somewhere on this forum)
- Using current/older version(s) of the full (so non-custom) SVP-package

TL;DR: PotPlayer crashes due to what appears to be a memory leak. How do I fix this issue?

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

quick solution - http://www.svp-team.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=800

wait for SVP 3.1.3, it'll work with multi-GPU configs like yours

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

I cannot uninstall any Intel OpenCL drivers because the HD3000 (from 2nd gen. Ivy Bridge) does not support it. So the problem must be coming from somewhere else.

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

oh i see, sorry, it's a hard day smile

well, try MPC-HC

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

MPC-HC gives the same problem.

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

regardless of source video and SVP settings?

It is not normal, but not usual type of error.
Usual memory leak error appears just after start playing. In your case you have 1-2 minutes. It is another memory leak error.

Can you show a screenshot of SVP Performance graphs window just after player hungs?

Screenshot: you can clearly see the bump in memory used when the crash happens.

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

obviously this's not a memory leak
hmm

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

Bakpoeder
I see strange SVP-index value: 2.07x.
1364 MB is not so big value to lead to player's crash if you have 64bit system with 4+ GB memory.
720p is easy resolution to SVP. And it is not crash. Graphics shows player works at double speed: 2.07x

What happened 5 sec before screenshot? I see 2 sec pause then 5 sec fast play (2.07x).
Vertical lines on graphics shows settings change and SVP-mode change. Try to repeat this situation and show last launch log after that: SVP tray menu - Information (in advanced or expert Interface type).

Your laptop HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC is very strange. It operates slow in unexpected places.

What happend after 40 sec after start? Do you know? Do you touch it at this moment?

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

SVP starts up when windows starts, so that might explain why the numbers are so high. When I launch SVP when the system is booted the values are way lower: max is 200 ms for writing setting.ini.

Yes I have 2 monitors. Though the crash also happens when i'm using my native laptop monitor.

After the 40 seconds the image just hangs. Im not touching anything. Im now trying to see some kind of pattern (HDD usage, scene switching) but i'll need some more time for that.

Nice log. It is better. smile

Can you get additional information from SVP tray menu - Information?
1. First time just after playing before crash.
2. Second time - just after crash.

I might note that the Ted (720p ~4k kbps variable) file manages to run way longer then for example The Dark Night Rises (720p ~4k kbs variable). Also, GPU-Z shows NO (0%) GPU-load with OpenCL enabled. When playing w/out OpenCL, it gives minor GPU-load (1-10%).

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

Thank you. Files are identical. Nothing strange here. It is good.

GPU-Z shows NO (0%) GPU-load with OpenCL enabled
It is mean something wrong with OpenCL. Can you run CLinfo at your system and show resulted txt?

Unpack to any folder and run CLinfo.cmd.

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

By the way, have your laptop switchable graphics? hmm
Maybe, it is switching to another adapter after 40 sec of playing?

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

I do have switchable graphics. I'm running the laptop on the AMD 6770m card. There is no way this card switches to the HD3000, I can only switch it manually.

Here's the CLinfo:

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

Can you unistall OpenCL emulation on CPU?

Device Type:                     CL_DEVICE_TYPE_CPU

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

I could not uninstall OpenCL emulation for CPU only, so I removed the whole package. SVP had OpenCL usage greyed out, that makes sense.
So I downloaded AMD APP OpenCL SDK package, installed OpenCL for GPU only (unticked CPU), but now my system does not support OpenCL at all. Reboot etc. all tried, but to no avail sad

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

Here we need a help from our friends with AMD-adapters. I have NV and can't give right advice.

Re: Playback crash when OpenCL is enabled.

Now installed the Intel OpenCL package next to the AMD APP (OpenCL) package, but I still have to install both GPU and CPU AMD APP packages to get OpenCL working. Though I think it might be a good step.

The problem still persists though
