Michael
yes, with control GPU/CPU loading
settings madvr I show above
I get it. but I have to do it with just one movie, or should I do the test with each of them?
SVP how should I set it?
Michael
SVP how should I set it?
reset to default settings
Ok, but the evidence I have to do with a particular video or all three resolutions (SD, HD, FHD)?
A) set madvr settings as I show above
B) reset SVP settings to default (SVP manager automatically choose optimal for you hardware)
C) test all three resolution separatly for cheking lag or other imperfection
I can not find a video with 720X576 resolution
Can you help me?
Tuttto the ones I found on youtube, once downloaded had a different resolution.
Michael
in SVPMark in subfolder data\video\VID_SD.avi
After days of testing...for now I decided to put this setting on my system (i5 3570, GT 220):
This setting basically from THX-UltraII recommendation but I modified 2m to 1.5m and by two global refinement to disable
1.5m
Complicated
Default
8 px
Default
Large
Default
Strongest
Default
Default
To screen size
This setting alone make my CPU peak around 70-90%, so I change analyse.main.search.distance = 0 in override.js file which tested by MAG79 which reduce CPU usage by around 20%
The result is pretty good although not as smooth as uniform but no visible artifact and still have smoothness.
I use this setting with madvr (as Rimsky suggested):
chroma upscaling (bicubic, sharpness 50)
image upscaling (bicubic, sharpness 50)
image downscaling (lanzcros, 3 taps)
the rest setting is default, the picture quality is pretty sharp
The video that you have shown me, it is 720X576 but its size is 704X392.
Is that okay or should be solely of size 720X576?
Michael
You are right. I wonder. I missed it before.
Earler file was VID_PAL.avi and it was 720x576. Now I need time to think why our SVPmark test includes file with another resolution.
By the way, 720x576 it standard resolution of DVD. You can use any DVD for that purposes.
MAG79
This helped me a bit. I have an 8-Core Xeon and everything that auto-profiles always thinks its a POS...so I checked the default and it was set to i3! I set it to 5G and now its MUCH better! I am still getting a little ghosting artifacts...so I have to experiment with some of the advanced settings...but that helped considerably already!
I have a question to the speed estamination.
I use a G75 Laptop (3D Version, so its a 120Hz display)
The speed estamination puts settings at 4G, I wonder does it estaminate these settings for 60 FPS (screenrefresh / 2) or for 120FPS (wich I get by default settings)?
Fanty1972
I wonder does it estaminate these settings for 60 FPS (screenrefresh / 2) or for 120FPS
for 60 fps
but 120 fps shouldn't be a problem with a good GPU

My GPU is a Geforce GTX 670M (3GB), a laptop GPU.
When doing 120FPS its at about 50% (CPU cores at 25%)
What I wonder is, that I get dropped frames in 120 FPS (not in 60FPS). About 20 dropped frames in 2 minutes of video (is this something to worry about? hmm)
I was able to lower the amount of dropped frames by increasing the render queue in madVR to the maximum (128, default is 16)
That caused that there was 0 dropped frames in the same 2 minutes of video. And trying a whole movie, it was between 15 and 20 dropped frames every 60 minutes.
Fanty1972
My GPU is a Geforce GTX 670M
GPU Engine Specs
CUDA Cores 336 cores
Graphics Clock (MHz) 598 MHz
Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 33.5
Memory Specs
Memory Clock 1500
Memory Interface GDDR5
Memory Interface Width 192bit
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 72.0
I dont think that is good GPU for doing 120fps
Its beetween desktop GT630 and GT640
Feel the difference: desktop GT640 has 384 CUDA Cores at 1000MHz, GTX670M only 336 CUDA Cores at 600MHz
So in calculation GTX670m is half of the desktop GT640
Feel the power of marcketings

So, you think I get better results if I set it to 60FPS?
I get 16% CPU and 22% GPU when running 60FPS. (24% CPU and 48% GPU at 120FPS)
I usualy play games at 80-90% GPU without having the feeling that its any bad.

Well, of course will Desktop hardware always be better and much, much cheaper.
But the 670M was claimed to be the fastest mobile GPU that existed at the time when I buyed the laptop for 2000 Euro, 1 year ago.
Of course my friends told me, I get a similiar desktop PC for half the prize but I really need a mobile computer, that is capable of playing games with decent settings and I cant afford to exchange 2 computers (Desktop AND Laptop) every 2 years so I stick to buying the most powerfull laptop (below 3000 Euro) every 2 years and skip buying desktop mashines.

games fps are not equal to the cinema fps - different blocks in works: cuda cores at games, pureVideo at playback

Well ok.
But what about my main question? Do you recomment Screenrefresh/2 (60 FPS) for my hardware?
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I rarely watch 1080p material, but usualy 720p material (TV Shows consume less HD space with it + I use a H5360 beamer when at home (wich is only 720p capable anyways)
So I guess I need less hardwarepower anyways?
Fanty1972
Do you recomment Screenrefresh/2 (60 FPS) for my hardware?
what render did you use?
as for me i should test it well: try 3x - 4x - screenrefresh (75 - 100 - 120 fps) at 1080p/720p at evrcp/madvr
May I mistakeing but gtx670M can play near 100FPS (23.976 at 4x smooth)
But i has gtx650TiBoost (768 cuda cores * 1100MHz) - it powerfull enought
Fanty1972

madVR. But only since 2 days (before this I never cared about render...uhm and I still cant see the difference anyways . Before I used "EVR-Custom present" wich was default setting.
let me check the weight of the default render....
Ah ok, the default render (EVR-Custom present) is at CPU 16% and GPU 23% when doing 120 FPS. About half of what madVR has (for the GPU)
At 60 FPS I get 13% CPU and 15% GPU with it.
All this is with 720p material.
Fanty1972

well, and what about frame drops?

OK, I did a 20 minute test with EVR-Custrom present @120 FPS = 0 frame drops
One difference is also, that MP-HC actually reaches 120FPS instead of like 119,8 FPS with madVR
so you were using too heavy settings in madVR for 120 Hz...
so you were using too heavy settings in madVR for 120 Hz...
I already used lower settings than default.
All scaling at "bicubic" and sharpness 50 (there was no scaling anyways with the values I postet, it was 720p material, projected with a 720p beamer)
Overlay windowed mode (much less dropped frames for me)
I also use Reclock.
Hm I just tried several settings with a (saved to mpg4) Youtube Video:
Its 720p and I try it at my laptop screen in 1080p, so its scaled.
All with G4 Settings (recommended)
madVR with default settings @120Hz = 909 Frames dropped
madVR with default settings @ source x 4 = 82 Frames dropped
madVR with default settings @60Hz = 0 Frames dropped
madVR with "Overlay Windowed mode" @120Hz = 22 Frames dropped
madVR with "Overlay Windowed mode" @ source x 4 = 0 Frames dropped
madVR with "Overlay Windowed mode" @60Hz = 0 Frames dropped
madVR with all my settings @120Hz: 10 Frames dropped
madVR with all my settings @ source x4 : 0 Frames dropped
madVR with all my settings @60Hz: 0 Frames dropped
EVR-cp @120Hz = 0 Frame drops
