Topic: (Solved) Video stutters and frame drops with MadVR.

PC spec:
- Win7 x64 ult
- i7
- GTX 275 (LAV with DXVA native)
- old pioneer plasma (5% overscan @ 720p -> 1216x684)

Wanted to have Soap Opera Effect for some videos lol , but getting video stutters (frame drops?).  Tried with Reclock, which causes stutters even without SVP.  Read another post about video scaling could be heavy, wondering if that could be the reason?

Where can I get some solid data to check if the changes help?  And what's the recommended settings for my PC spec?

cheers  smile

Your spec is good enough to smooth video play. Just you need to tune it.

How many displays connected to your PC?

Re: (Solved) Video stutters and frame drops with MadVR.

2 Displays, 1 LCD @ 1440x900 for desktop and the plasma mentioned above for video.

And I found that if I run MadVR in full screen exclusive mode, the screen will flicker badly if I just move mouse to bottom to use the timeline bar, but I have not yet test the latest version to see if this behavior has changed.

Disable LCD from Desktop - Resolution menu. Stay one Plasma.
Try smoothness again.
For test purposes. If it works then you can do some experiments with primary/secondary displays.
Or use standard windows 7 shortcut Win-P to select plasma alone while view video.

I know only three true stutters free video modes:
- madVR exclusive fullscreen mode
- EVR custom presenter D3D fullscreen mode
- Overlay mixer wink

Re: (Solved) Video stutters and frame drops with MadVR.

Yes, single display works, or primary display in dual.  Or MadVR exclusive mode for second display in dual.  lol

* But for times, there are blurry artifacts around moving objects, how do I correct those?

It seems Win-P 'Projector only' will choose primary display as projector, how do I set my plasma (non-primary) as projector?  I don't want to use plasma as primary cause it will be turned off if I'm not watching video!

Do you mean the "windowed overly" in MadVR for 'overlay mixer'?
Anyway, I tried that, but video failed to render, some D3D reset error!

Exclusive full screen is still a bit painful to use as the screen flicks when switching to windowed mode.  Would like to try EVR custom presenter but don't want to use MPC-HC, anyway to use it with KMP?  I googled it, but find no download.

Good cool

No. Overlay Mixer Filter.
I do not recommend to enable "windowed overly" in MadVR. hmm

Select EVR in KMP. What the problem? wink

But for times, there are blurry artifacts around moving objects, how do I correct those?
It is lack of technology. You can reduce it but you can not remove it completely. We can discuss it separately. It is off-topic here.

My bad!  Tested Overlay Mixer ages ago, the result was pretty bad.  Even the page recommended VMR9.

Actually I tested SVP with EVR (C/A) on KMP, not sure if (C/A) made the matter worst, cause the SVP index goes below 0.8 for times, and occasionally the sound goes off, really strange!
I thought the EVR Custom presenter is something new and only available to MPC-HC...  I will go test EVR instead.

Questions: Which renderer would you recommend for quality?  For LAV, which hardware decoder to use with SVP?

Re: (Solved) Video stutters and frame drops with MadVR.

madVR is the best renderer.
