Topic: Problems playing 1080p videos

Hi!

I'm a new fan of this fantastic project: i love the way it smooths videos. I have installed the full package: Avisynth, ffdShow, LAV Filters, Haali, madVR, MPC-HC  and i can play properly almost any non-1080p video, but when i play 1080p videos, they stutter and are not fluids. I have read other threads regarding this problem, but i can't figure out why on my pc they are not fluid (i think they are intended to be, if i've read well). Here is some info:

My config:
Intel i7 920@3.2 Ghz
RAM: Corsair 6Gb XMS3 CL8
GPU: XFX HD5870

Did you try madVR in fullscreen?

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

if you intend:
from the tray area: mad* home cinema control -> edit mvr settings -> rendering ->general settings -> enable automatic fullscreen exclusive mode

yes, as it's checked by default and i'haven't change anything....

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

Try to enable tearing test in SVP, switch to full screen mode, wait 2-3 seconds to exclusive mode enabling.
Orange line must move uniform without jerky.
Have you stutter in audio? It is not clear to me.

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

ok, i've done some testing with tearing test:

- audio is always perfect, also when video stutters

- with low resolution media the line move perfectly uniform
- with 720p material the line is almost uniform, with some little esitation (but not noticeble)
- with 1080p material the line stutters a lot, his moviment is non fluid

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

with 1080p material
Ok. Lets take your example video "MarginCall.mkv".

Try step-by-step:
1. Disable GPU-Acceleration via SVP tray menu. Check tearing test.
2. Reset profiles to default: SVP tray menu - Video profiles - Reset to defaults, Click OK when profiles set will be auto-detected - Yes. Check tearing test.
3. Disable hardware decoder in LAV Video Decoder. When video is played right click on ffdShow tray menu - LAV Video Decoder - Hardware Acceleration: None - OK, Reopen video in the player. Check tearing test.

Please tell me after what step you got nice uniform motion of orange line?

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

ok, i've made the tests:

1 - no changes
2 - no changes
3 - after disabling HW accelleration the line moves perfectly uniform!

After that i've tried to set Hardware accelleration = DXVA2 (native) and all works perfectly. Precedently it was DXVA2 (copy-back) and if i set this the line stutters again. So it seems to be a problem related to this "copy-back" option....is it possible?

Thanks for your support smile

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

Yes. Thank you too.
You helped me to find cause of jerkiness on some AMD videocards. It is DXVA2 (Copy-back) too as for some NVIDIA videocards. For NVIDIA good solution is NVIDIA CUDA. It more smoothly. But it not compatible to AMD.

I want to ask you. Did you select DXVA2 (native) and it works with SVP? It is strange. SVP is incompatible with native DXVA2. Can you check it again?

And I think we have solution how to enable AMD DXVA-decoding without jerkiness. Can you check frequency of your HD5870 when DXVA-decoding enable and when disable? If frequency with DXVA enabled is lower then it is the same case what we faced some time ago. We have solution how to avoid frequency falling when DXVA-decoding enable. Please check first is it the same problem?

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

Yes, DXVA2 (native) is now checked, as long as GPU acceleration from SVP Manager, and all seems to work. From GPU-Z frequency of GPU are 850Mhz and 1200Mhz

If i disable DXVA2, setting HW ACC. to none, GPU freqs remain the same when i play videos. The "strange" thing is that i can't see any difference from when DXVA2 is enabled and when is disabled. Maybe it's non working? Am i supposed to see some differences?

I can make other tests if they'll be helpfull...

Maybe DXVA2 native is not enabled?

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

In fact, it's "available", but Active Codec is avcodec. So it seems it's available but not setted...

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

xcloudx
Ok. Thank you. It is clear to me now why DXVA2 native is worked to you smile
It is fall-back software decoding. LAV has one of the fastest software decoders. You can continue to use it without any problems.

Re: Problems playing 1080p videos

yes i see, almost any file now plays smooth. Thanks again.

This worked like a charm, but I had to disable it to get loss all tearing. For some reason running it on full screen exclusive casues huge performance drop. Could be because I'm using multiple monitors.
