Topic: Anime not quite fixed for me

Hello,
So today I got SVP and was amazed by the result. That is until I watched anime, which is what I mostly use my video player. I found that aparently there is a "fix" by tweaking the settings a little, however it didn't work quite well for me. Here are some examples. NOTE: These problems tend to appear in scenes where the framerate was already "high" to begin with (ex: Fast backgrounds, Quick Camera movements, someone running, etc)

that's the problem. I followed the guide and the results are the pictures (exept the 1st one)

Thank you for these screenshoots.
They show interpolation artifacts calling "waved artifacts".
We have no way to repair it completely for now, but we can make them less visible.

Can you give me sample of video or two neighboring source frames from any of these anime to tune settings?

Here you go, this is one of the most notable examples, it tends to happen a lot with text.

Ok. Thank you. I will take a closer look soon.

Re: Anime not quite fixed for me

Well, have been trying to get best of SVP with anime for a while, however, manual seems to be irrelevant, at least with latest versions. Guess MAG79 will suggest better alternatives but I use default presets with Motion Vectors Grid set to 32 px. (Large 0). Didn't have much time to test in many series but in BRS opening 1080p (moment with black lines was a benchmark as there were too many artifacts) I recieved a close-to-perfect video. Ben-tou 720p, Monogatari 720p and Durarara 1080p look nice as well.

G10shish
Motion Vectors Grid set to 32 px

As for me 24px is better for 1080p

Well, it needs testing, as at least in my "benching vid parts" I saw almost no difference...

Your youtube video is good to see but bad to use for SVP settings optimization. It is only 480p and with double-frames and interpolated frames. I don't need it.
I need REAL frames with REAL resolution. And just neighboring 2 frames will be enough for me. wink

How it should look: http://postimg.org/image/sqr6h4j3b/

What happens:
frame 1: http://postimg.org/image/nsr3iof53/
frame 2: http://postimg.org/image/apvgzeox3/

also, something I realized a little ago, this problem seems to happen when there is a lightning change (ex: something white moves quickly in the background -can be a lightshaft or just anything white like the clouds of the pics)

Re: Anime not quite fixed for me

As far as I understand, cell-shaded cartoons are basically impossible to use motion interpolation with. The reason being that between any 2 frames, there's a multitude of possible "solutions".
I wrote that guide a long time ago, and I've actually noticed the problem myself even with the highest "Motion Vectors Grid" set. The only real use for SVP is for reducing the judder of zooms and pans.
It's been quite some time since I fiddled with it, but the trick lies in altering the settings behind the "Adaptive" interpolation mode. Setting the conditions for when to activate frame interpolation to the max makes SVP only activate under absolute ideal conditions (pans and zooms). I might aswell write it in stone here: Artifact-free motion interpolation for cell-shaded cartoons is impossible, even with the best algorithms.

For max smoothness, I also doubt there will be artifact free, but I get best result in:
4g profile then change shader to complicated and artifact masking to average

My system:
i5 3570, geforce gt 220 1 gig

I tested gundam unicorn 1080p bluray rip (mkv), I hadn't a chance to test whole movie, I just tested certain scene that have visible artifact in default profile settings. I think artifact masking set to average is tolerable, I still got smoothness but not always of course. For now I'm happy with this setting.
