Topic: Why is SVP trying to connect to the internet?

My Antivirus (Emsisoft Anti-Malware) reported a malicious activity in SVP that it is trying to connect to the internet and transmit data.

why on earth would it do that??? what is it trying to send?

Re: Why is SVP trying to connect to the internet?

checking for updates?

Re: Why is SVP trying to connect to the internet?

I made a complain in the Emsisoft forum about this false positive, trying to connect to the internet and code injection...

their response is they can whitelist the file if you can digitally sign the SVP installer.

Can you guys please do that?

Re: Why is SVP trying to connect to the internet?

and it's not $10  big_smile more like $300/year

so we definitely won't do this just for one anti virus

Re: Why is SVP trying to connect to the internet?

I understand. I wouldn't do it as well if I were in your position.

Re: Why is SVP trying to connect to the internet?

SVP has just been whitelisted with Emsisoft Anti-Malware. No more issues smile

on of the best AVs out there, that got 99.8% detection rate last april on the AV comparatives test results. is very light, and doesn't usually have any quirks like other AVs do...

AV comparatives test results: http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php

read this please to see my experience with almost every AV out there:

Why there isn't microsoft listed at that AV-graph?

I would not call that Emsoft any good as it caused you troubles with SVP. The energy and time you used to fix your problems you'd had watched couple of movies or doing something else.

I have concerns about SVP due to the fact that it is not open source, connects to the internet and and is based out of Russia where the lion's share of trojans and botnets are based.

I note that SVP uses several open source packages, such as avisynth and ffdshow, but is not open source itself.

Can someone associated with the project clarify why this is the case ?

so you'd have less concerns if SVP was from... mmm... Finland?  big_smile

Microsoft Security Essentials / Windows defender was removed about 6 months ago from AV Comparative test as they failed any kind of certification since they are the worst AV in the world.

If you want to see how bad they score, look at AV Test:

http://www.av-test.org/en/home/

Click on Home, then scroll to the end, and see how bad MSE is, you would rather have no AV than to use that crap. The first thing I do when I install Windows is to uninstall that useless AV via the Windows Defender uninstaller so it would be totally removed from my system along with its service and icon in Control Panel. The uninstaller only works on Windows 7:

And the time I wasted fixing this issue was not bad, it's just because SVP wasn't known to Emsisoft, and now that it is, I never have this issue again. It was not detected as a virus by Emsisoft's virus signatures since they also use the Bitdefender Engine which doesn't mark SVP as a Virus, but rather, it was blocked by Emsisfot's Behavioral Blocker which makes sense since it was trying to do things that are not normal, like connecting to the internet and code injection into MPC-HC, since that is how SVP works, but this is also a method which can be used by trojans/viruses (code injection) so, it had to be whitelisted
