Topic: I5 6600k or I7 6700 for svp?

Well as the topic says, would the hyper threading of the I7 help alot? Or should I just stick with the I5?

Re: I5 6600k or I7 6700 for svp?

Hi,

I went from a 3570K @ 4.2Ghz to a 4790K @ 4.7Ghz and it made a difference. A big difference. Probably not much at all if you're running the default settings though.

But it allowed me to fine tune my settings for SVP better (settings which are now probably only in the purchased version of SVP 4, which I'm waiting for eagerly).

Anyway, the first question really is... what do you use your system for? What are your other specs?

There are some scores in the SVPMark database, but here's a 6600k @4.65ghz:

A 6700k at 5.0:

And a 4790k @ 4.7GHz gets ~3100.

Even without hyperthreading, the 6600k has a slight edge... But just barely. Both should OC similarly, but I'd go with with the 6600k if I were you just to get better per-thread performance and the better Z170 platform.

Obviously the 6700k is the chip you want if you can afford it. That score beats some of Intel's newer HEDT chips.

I can confirm the 4790K scores mentioned above @ 4.70Ghz

Thanks for the all the replies guys,i'll be going with the 6600k as per the scores and your recommendations.
As for my build here you go(will get a gpu after my big exams next year) : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LHNfWZ
I'll be using for gaming as well, nothing else cpu intensive aside from svp.

Ok so i just realized that the I7 6700(non-k) is in my price range but I can't overclock it.....so once again, should I stick with the I5 or go with the I7 in this case? Thanks a lot for any reply in advance.

Re: I5 6600k or I7 6700 for svp?

I use i5 because of price. And it needs 2 times less threads and 2 times less memory, so I have more chances to avoid out of memory errors when use nonstandard avisynth versions (it is needed to me for test purposes minely). Of course I have 20% less performance compare to i7. I know it and I take it into account. By the way my core i5-3570k is enough for top profile set in SVP 3 and SVP 4.
