Topic: MPC-HC crashes with AMD Crimson drver and madVR renderer

Users tell me about Player's crashes with AMD Crimson drivers.

I confirm the issue. I checked Radeon Software Crimsom edition 16.1, 15.12 and 15.11.
If you use GPU Acceleration in SVP with your AMD graphic adapter and use madVR renderer in player then it can lead to player's crash.

To avoid the player crashes You can do one thing from these:
1. Switch GPU Acceleration in SVP to another adapter (Intel or NVIDIA): SVP tray menu - Application settings - GPU Acceleration
2. Switch renderer from madVR to EVR custom: MPC-HC - View menu - Options - Output - select Enchanced Video Renderer (custom presenter) and enable D3D Fullscreen option to avoid jerkiness in fullscreen
3. Disable GPU Acceleration in SVP: SVP tray menu - Application settings - GPU Acceleration - No acceleration
4. Install Catalyst drivers 15.7 (15.7.1). This driver is working well with SVP GPU Acceleration and madVR renderer

checked on win10 x64 with Core i5-3570K and AMD Radeon R9 285

Re: MPC-HC crashes with AMD Crimson drver and madVR renderer

Thanks for the heads-up.

I have HD56070, and from AMD site it's already classified as legacy driver. The last official release from them for my GPU type driver is 15.7, and AMD provide Crimson edition beta.

My question is, should I upgrade my driver to Crimson Edition? Will I be affected too as the said issues?
If anyone has legacy GPU and has tried the Crimson Edition, please share your experience. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, your graphic adapter is not supported by Crimson drivers.

See http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/d … ws+10+-+64 > Supported products

There's Crimson (forever) beta http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/d … ws+10+-+64

Actually, my AMD catalyst always crash when booting up PC, that's why I'm hesitating between upgrading to that (forever) beta edition or not.
The driver itself is working without any problem.

Oh, now I see. Thank you.
Sorry, I have not legacy AMD adapter to check Crimson beta for you. wink
If you will install it then inform us about the issue, please.

Yeah, I thought of doing it another time big_smile , not at this time thought

Maybe some users here have the same case with me, and they have already installed it. It would be a nice reference if they already did it smile

Re: MPC-HC crashes with AMD Crimson drver and madVR renderer

Does this work with 15.11.1?  That's pretty much the go-to version for anyone that's having any issues with Crimson.

OT here but related to SVP functionality with Crimson drivers on my AMD 7850. I Uninstalled the latest Crimson drivers pkg and installed the final pre-crimson drivers (15.7.1) and all is fine now (GPU acceleration works from AviSynth script in ffdshow). As you know prior to that I couldn't get AviSynth Script to enable GPU acceleration with MPC-HC x-64 although it did work with MPC-BE (x-86 and x-64) and MPC-HC x-86. I tried *everything* but no success. The only thing left was rolling back the AMD GPU drivers. Couldn't see how that would help but I knew it worked at one time. So why not..that did the trick.

Unfortunately I don't have that version. sad
The latest version I have is 15.7.1 (official release) and 15.12 (Crimson beta for legacy adapter)

I guess my problem is in Windows update, because Catalyst never crash before when using Windows 10.
Now, it's always crash.

Of course, SVP and the driver itself is still working flawless smile

Re: MPC-HC crashes with AMD Crimson drver and madVR renderer

Crimson BETA for legacy adapters doesn't support OpenCL for pre-CGN cards!

Re: MPC-HC crashes with AMD Crimson drver and madVR renderer

I use Win10 Pro x64 + AMD Fury X + Crimson drivers + SVP4 Pro 4.0.0.56 also have the same problem for a long time.
All Crimson drivers could not use "GPU Accelration" in SVP4 Pro.(MPC-BE or MPC-HC will down right away.)

This maybe something wrong with OpenCL by AMD or SVP.
MadVR also has error when using any of "NNEDI3" option on Crimson drivers.

But when using AMD Catalyst drivers【OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1800.11)】,GPU Accelration in SVP4 Pro or "NNEDI3" option in madVR all works fine.

Any idea to fix it ?
I hope this problem would be repaired quickly.

The image is the different of OpenCL in "Catalyst" and "Crimson" on my PC.

Re: MPC-HC crashes with AMD Crimson drver and madVR renderer

Now I can use madVR on win10 with SVP GPU acceleration!
But it is not simple. smile

Used: Radeon R9 285 with Crimson 16.1.1 Beta, Win10 (build 10586), SVP 4.0.0.60, madVR 0.90.4, MPC-HC 1.7.10.

The trick is to change renderer without closing Player window:
1) Open with EVR: in MPC-HC - menu View - Options - Output - choose EVR custom - open video - see smooth playback
2) Change to madVR: in MPC-HC - menu View - Options - Output - choose madVR - reopen video

If open video straight with madVR I still get error:

Re: MPC-HC crashes with AMD Crimson drver and madVR renderer

Just tested:
- Trick works on Crimson 16.1 (7Jan) driver too. And for some video files it works without trick wink
- Trick works on Crimson 15.12 driver too. And for some video files it works without trick too.

Looks like madVR becomes better. From madVR v0.90.4 log:

* fixed: AMD x64 GPU driver crash (added a workaround, not my fault!)
