Topic: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

Okay so i want to say that some time before (old svp and new premium svp), I could play 1080p files with frame conversion high, masking high, Film and Animation with no problems. But recently, I dont know exact time nor update, Whenever i enable frame rate conversion, everything stutters. Like under 20 fps. If i disable it it is smoother on 24 fps than it is with it on. Like every 5th frame is dropped. I couldn't find a way to check exact fps.

I tried, reinstalling, reformatting windows 10 (didnt do it specially for this problem), rechecking performance, reinstalling gpu drivers, you name it.
I don't know what causes it. Any help ?

I use KCP-BE, highest preset (ev-cpr is the same), windows 10 64bit, 16gb ram.
If you need any more info i would be happy to provide it.
Help!

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

Nvidia on Window 10?  Yep...

In MPC-HC, set your LAVfilters decoder to "DXVA2 (copy-back)" if you haven't already.

The other things typically mentioned that might solve your issue:

- Enable Direct3D Fullscreen

- Manually set the amount of threads in SVP to a larger value (you want the smallest amount possible that gives a perfectly smooth result)

- *gasp* disable GPU acceleration in SVP; a last resort, but it's worth a shot.

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

Okay. No questions. Nothing worked. Except, EXCEPT FUCKING NO ACCELERATION.

Now, here's the thing, it works smoothly with everything on high. What is the difference here ? I didn't notice much slowdown to rest of the system while i had video running. Why isnt gpu acceleration doing anything ?

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

All GPU acceleration really does is shift some of the load from the CPU to the GPU.  It's likely that, because of your overclock, you can run SVP at full speed even without GPU acceleration.

The thing is, there's a maximum that SVP will run at even if you have lots of processor head room.  In order to pass that limit you would need to use custom settings in SVP, and even then that only raises the bar rather than eliminates it.

If you really want to get GPU acceleration working, I would try running DDU (LINK) and then re-installing your GPU drivers.  You can also try installing the drivers for your Intel integrated GPU and selecting that in SVP (this is particularly useful if you use MadVR since you can dedicate your 970 to that).

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

I said I actually tried reinstalling my GPU drivers. I can't really install Intel drivers because I don't have Integrated Graphics on my motherboard. How about that dedicating MadVR to GPU ? Because i never found that option anywhere, or were you just speaking that SVP will be set to use Intel and MadVR just defaults to GPU ?

I'm aware of that, but you didn't say whether you used DDU or not - that's the key.  Yes it can make a difference - I had a problem where, after I installed and then uninstalled Nvidia drivers via the normal uninstaller, I was unable to select my integrated Intel graphics in SVP until I ran DDU.

And yes, it can make a difference even if you installed the drivers on a fresh copy of Windows 10 because DDU will attempt to disable Windows's automatic drivers installation since that can sometimes bork up things if you're installing drivers from the vendor rather than from Microsoft.

While you're technically correct, you do still have integrated graphics because it's built into the CPU itself.

If you're saying that your mobo doesn't have a video outputs, well I don't think you actually need to remove your discrete GPU in order to install the Intel GPU drivers...

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

I used DDU before i formatted and it didn't really change anything but i will try again.

I said that i can't install those drivers because i don't know where to download them from. All i get is some auto detect installer from Intel that doesn't work. And I cant really find display drivers for windows 10 elsewhere. I never installed them even on win 7, 8, 8.1.

I know that i don't need to remove my gtx 970 to install drivers smile its just i never could install them, thats why i said it.

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

Yeah it's a little tricky - my personal method for finding Intel graphics drivers for Sandy Bridge is to put the following into Google:

It's the first result.  Note that there isn't an official Windows 10 driver, so you have to use the Win7/8.1 driver.

For reference, this trick works on other Intel processors as well; for my Haswell Pentium I just change the '2nd' to '4th' and voila.

BTW, just to check, is your monitor larger than 1920 pixels wide?  I ask this because apparently the iGPU on Sandy Bridge may struggle with SVP at resolutions larger than 1920 pixels wide.

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

No its 1920x1080 + 1280x1024 secondary.

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

I forgot to clarify, the Win7/8.1 drivers should still work on Windows 10 - in fact this may be preferred since, like Nvidia, Intel's Win10 drivers seem to not be that great stability-wise.

(interestingly enough, it seems that AMD's Win10 drivers work just fine with SVP...)

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

Yeah i guessed as much, downloaded win 7,8 64bit drivers, there was also win 7,8,8.1 drivers but they were 32bit. Brb using DDU

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

Used DDU, windows 10 installed old nvidia drivers, I installed Geforce Experience and downloaded lastest drivers. Now SVP works with acceleration. Intel drivers refused to install because system restrictions (tired compatibility). Downloaded zip version of intel drivers, same thing.

For now i need to test it for some time how it works. Thank you for your time and help.

SVP needs fast GPU with wide bandwidth between CPU and GPU. Then GPU can encrease overall SVP rperformance.

Run SVPmark and post results here. Looks like your videocard have some bolttle-neck.
For example I hear couple times from SVP users about PCI-E x1 mode instead of PCI-E x16.

This is just too proof my OC because svp mark didnt detect it.

I can assure you that is not the case. I think I would notice that my card is in 1x mode simply by low fps in games.

Re: i5-2500k@4,7GHz + GTX 970 stuttering

Mr_SkiZZeX
Your SVPmark results are OK. So it is not GPU performance issue.
