Topic: SVPtube 2 download not working - "Protocol not found"

I've never had any luck using SVPtube to download Youtube videos. I can play them directly by clicking play, but when I select Download and choose the location, nothing happens.

I notice in my Events Log that a consistent error message appears stating "Protocol not found" when I try to download a Youtube video:

I have tried default settings, uninstalling / reinstalling SVP, and selecting different formats but the error message is always the same and I'm not sure what else to try. Please note that playing the video directly from SVPTube works fine, it's just downloading that fails. Any help would be much appreciated!

Let me also just say a huge thanks to the devs for all your work on SVP. I've used it since early in the SVP3 days and had no hesitation in purchasing SVP4. Provided amazing new capabilities when I had a non-FI display, and even now that I do, I find it still gives a better results. Great work!

Re: SVPtube 2 download not working - "Protocol not found"

You need component "SVPtube 2 video downloading" to be installed. See it in SVP 4 Maintenance tool: Utilities - Additional programs and features...
In addition look to wiki page about downloading requirements.
Maybe something special in your youtube-video. Try another. Give us the link to problem video.

If it can't help send us problem report via SVP: Information - Send problem report...

P.S. Downloading works to me with the same version of SVP4 and at the same version of windows.

Re: SVPtube 2 download not working - "Protocol not found"

Thanks for your reply. I do have that component installed. I checked the requirements stating that ffmpeg is required, and I can see it under the SVP utils subfolder.

I don't think it's a problem with the video, because I have tried dozens of videos of different formats and resolutions etc, all result in the same error, but here's a couple that I just tried again just now:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn9kumjbJkQ

I have sent problem report.

Re: SVPtube 2 download not working - "Protocol not found"

This is an error raised by ffmpeg, however I've no idea why. It works for me, I can even download from the URL provided in the first post.

If you run SVP 4\utils\ffmpeg.exe what you should see is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SVP 4\utils>ffmpeg
ffmpeg version 3.2.2 Copyright (c) 2000-2016 the FFmpeg developers
...

The next step is to download via ffmpeg manually:
- choose the video, click on "Copy URL" in SVPtube
- in the console window type

ffmpeg -y -i "PASTE-URL-HERE" -vcodec copy LOCAL-PATH

Example:

ffmpeg -y -i "https://r7---sn-v2u0n-hxal.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id=1e7f64ba68db2644&itag=315&source=youtube&requiressl=yes&mm=31&mv=m&ms=au&mn=sn-v2u0n-hxal&pl=18&initcwndbps=1525000&ratebypass=yes&mime=video/webm&gir=yes&clen=1682579394&lmt=1481457970074412&dur=516.366&upn=EFi5PZsloCU&mt=1485487224&signature=9AE6BF901DC29DBE7D39C77527B7DFA6286A5528.1A6FADC44837C85E4A2A5A3FFD98402225835DF8&key=dg_yt0&ip=122.105.196.234&ipbits=0&expire=1485509088&sparams=ip,ipbits,expire,id,itag,source,requiressl,mm,mv,ms,mn,pl,initcwndbps,ratebypass,mime,gir,clen,lmt,dur" -vcodec copy d:\test.webm

Re: SVPtube 2 download not working - "Protocol not found"

Hi Chainik,

I tried your command-line suggestions and yes, ffmpeg works correctly and it does download videos this way. One thing I notice though is that selecting any format with "V+A" (DASH formats?) only downloads video with no audio. Is this normal? If so, does that mean that 1080p and higher resolutions can't be downloaded with audio?

Of course, also, since the command-line function working, do you have any other ideas about what else I could try to get it to work directly in SVPtube?
