Topic: Need help reducing artifacts

Hey guys

Just bought SVP 4, since I can't seem to "unsee" the phenomenon of high frame rate, now that I have tried it.

I have read a couple of posts about reducing artifacts, but I don't see too much tangible information. There is one really good one, which kind of describes some of the more important settings. Is there really no one making good presets one can download for different viewing scenarios? Or are hardware differences such a big deal, that presets don't make sense unless I make the presets myself?

I'm viewing from my ASUS RoG laptop via HDMI cable to my Samsung TV (Motion Plus off) running about 60Hz. The laptop is: i7 2.60GHz Quad, 16GB DDR3, 980M 4GB.

I have a particular scene, which I have extracted and present to you here. It's from "Ghost in the Shell - Innocence".

The artifacts are pretty crazy in this scene, particularly with the farthest wing popping back and forth, and even more so on the right side of the plane, where weird white lines dance across the plane (I think they're usually referred to as "squiggly lines" on this forum?). Can I do something about those? I'd be pretty bummed if I paid $15 for something that generates weird squiggly lines on things, in addition to doing a great job of interpolating frames smile

I am using the settings from this post: http://www.svp-team.com/forum/viewtopic … 293#p61293

Sincerely, Ultroman

EDIT: Well, now I found another person's preset for anime here, and they seem to help quite a bit, albeit it's not perfect.

EDIT 2 (close enough to label solved): It seems that setting SVP shader to "23. Complicated" (or "2. Anime") produces these squiggly lines. Setting it to "13. Standard" seems to get rid of those around the right-hand side (the engine), leaving only a bunch of displaced pixels now and then, and the farthest wing doesn't pop anymore, but the green light on it flickers. Setting "Frame interpolation mode" to "2m (min. artifacts)" instead of "Uniform (max. fluidity)" doesn't help much, albeit a little. Setting "Artifacts Masking " to "Weakest" seems to "mask" the worst, though. It does, however introduce a tiiiny bit of ghosting to the image, but it's negligible for what you get in return. Maybe you can try setting it to "Weak" if you experience squigglies.

I'll leave my settings here for others to find, and the video for others to test with. It's a pretty good test-bed. It's from "Ghost in the Shell - Innocence".
