Topic: Chasing 4k@60fps
Hello guys,
I'm planning to treat my family with 4k@60fps movie binge-watching on the upcoming holiday season, and planning a new HTPC build for that purpose. I'm currently using OC-ed i7-3770k @ 4.2 Ghz (4c/8t) and it does not have enough power to run 4k.
1. When I run MPC-HC (x64) + madVR + Avisynth Combination, at 1080 fps I am getting roughly 40-45% CPU usage, sometimes spikes to 70%. At 1440p, it's almost 70-80% flat with some spikes to 100% causing dropped frames. This number is, aside from SVP processing, also due to 1.5x upscaling and sharpen ffmpeg filters. Obviously I will drop the upscaling & sharpen filter on 4k profile. But there's still nowhere enough CPU power to do 4k
2. When I tried using MPV + opengl-hq + Vapoursynth, it is considerably more efficient, 1080p with 30-31% CPU usage (already include lancsozsharp upscaling). But it's not usable on my case because we also saw Anime with those strange fps, causing desynced Audio overtime on MPV. So we dialed back to MPC-HC on the meantime.
Here is a few options which I'm thinking and looking for any suggestion for now:
1. Upgrading to AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (I will OC this to @3.8Ghz), with it's 8c/16t I'm sure it would be able to handle 4k@60fps (if my calculation was right, it should use roughly 50-60% CPU power on the ryzen with mpc-hc+madvr+avisynth?.. If someone could clarify, it would be appreciated).
2. Searching for another player alternative that allows us to watch the anime without audio desync, while using vapoursynth.
I'm generally fine with using mpv and it's shell & text based configuration system. If there's any recommendation to achieve what I'm trying to do, please do advise me. Thank you in advance!
