Topic: Intermittent video freeze on hevc only

Issue: whenever I watch something encoded in hevc I will get a full frame freeze for 5 to 10 seconds. The audio continues, and then eventually the video starts playing at a much higher fps to play catch-up. Eventually after 30 seconds or so they will go back in sync. It I pause immediately, wait a few seconds and resume it is much faster to go back in sync. This happens randomly, different parts of the same file, about once every 20-30 minutes. Sometime more often, sometimes not at all.

If I use mpv instead of mpc-hc it just had freezes and crashes

I've done a full reinstall, two different computers, same issue. If I disable SVP, it runs fine. SVP logs show nothing other than when I pause to look.

Using default settings for just about everything. Any ideas?

system hardware? CPU load?

turn off hardware video decoder if it's in use

rig #1
i7-2600k
32gb ram
gtx760

rig #2
i7-6700k
32gb ram
gtx1070

cpu load doesnt typically get to high, normally offloaded to gpu. ~30-40% on rig #1 1-5% on rig #2
hardware decoder is set to dxva2 copy back

Re: Intermittent video freeze on hevc only

Hardware decoding set to none, went about 3 hours without issue. Cautiously optimistic.

Is there a different decoder i should use that is better, or just stick with none?

Re: Intermittent video freeze on hevc only

try cuvid

AFAIK gtx 760 does HEVC decoding using shader blocks plus some CPU, not with a fixed-function hw decoder
