I have a 7800x3d with 32GB DDR5 6600mhz RAM in a X670-I Strix motherboard and a 4090. If I choose any setting above RIFE 4.9 and/or above Movie 2x (even 50fps) it becomes an unwatchable, stuttery mess. I was told in a different thread this was due to bandwidth limitations. It is possible I have something configured incorrectly. Is it as simple as placing the extracted RIFE models in the correct folder, then selecting them in SVP RIFE settings? One thing that has been bugging me is when the command prompt pops up setting the timing, I see it says something about f32 timing being unable to continue and selects f16. The command prompt also says resolution of 3840x2400 when I'm running at 3800x2160, which may help explain my poor performance. I looked for a way to change that setting but I haven't found it anywhere.

My RAM is 6600mhz at CL30 so could potentially be ram? Also I'm using MPV not MPClassic?

The SVP wiki states MPC-HC is more performant at 4K HDR, which is my use case. Somebody earlier told me it was a bandwidth limitation, which seems to likely be the case. Switching to MPV would not solve this problem, and I am unfamiliar with the settings. I will stick with Movie 2x, Rife 4.9, and MPC-HC as moving to newer RIFE filters becomes an unwatchable stuttery mess (I seem to be right up against the bandwidth limit) and going above Movie 2x using RIFE 4.9 (even Movie 50FPS) also leads to an unwatchable mess. I do not want to sacrifice visual quality for more frames either. I want to stick with full 4K resolution at the highest framerate I can, and Movie 2x is still a dramatic improvement. I paid for and ripped 4K blu rays, so I'm watching 4k blu rays.

are you using v2 and "performance boost" enabled with your 4090 ?

Yes, the frustrating thing is at Movie x2 I'm only using 60-70% of my GPU and 20% of my GPU, but if it is indeed a bandwidth limitation of my system, it makes sense it would chug if I increase the settings at all when I am close to that limit.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

it's strange because the wiki tells that the 4090 is capable of 4K 60fps

edit: he said that even 4.9 he can't reach more than x2, or I misunderstood

I think that will be with earlier versions of RIFE (<=4.9); later versions just need more horsepower.

Yeah it's one of a number of things on the Rife pages that needs to be updated.

Have you tried setting a different frame.resize limit? I set mine to -23041260 (median of 1080p/HD and 2160p/4k/UHD) and I can watch 4k-HDR-movies at x2 frames on a 4070 with about 80-90% GPU (DDR4, i9 12900KF) using RIFE 4.15v2/2 GPU threads.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

is there any comparison for frame.resize ?
I mean if it downscale to 1080p, why then starting from 4k and not start with 1080p ? You're not really playing 4K then

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Abraxas: how is it possible you can watch 4k x2 UHD with a 4070? I can not get it running without frame drops with a 4090 and mpc-hc?

May it be the model of 4090 why it does not work for some of us? Gainward is mine...others with stock OC may be faster

my 3070ti with HAGS off can run 4k@24 x 2 with a few frame drops. so 3080 should be a minimum to be able to smoothly run 4k@24 x 2 with HAGS off

what's your PC specs: CPU, RAM speed, bus, RAM timing?

you don't need to resize it to 1080p, 4090 should do perfectly fine for 3040 x 1710@24 x3

I hope the attached screenshots show, that I'm telling the truth (you never know, internet...) - and how I set SVP up. I'm watching The Martian HDR 4K (as I said before, not in real 4K resolution but in the middle of 1080p and 2160p) Edition using MVP with custom shaders.

Hi

hardware:
I5-13600
Ddr5 -4800 32gb stock settings
Gainward rtx 4090

MPC-HC
TensorRT
Boost enabled
HAGS off
Win11( anybody else or all using win10??)
Display @47.952
Tried "as Monitor" and "movie x2" with "force exact value" on and off. No difference at all.
AI model....4.6 or 4.15.....no difference. All stuttering

UHD in MPV hase some dropped frames. In MPC is like every fourth frame is dropped. MadVR is almost conpletely passtrough and no difference.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Rife 4.16 lite is available to download. But if you are already using 4.9 then don't bother because it's more or less the same.

Update: OK did a little bit of testing and it might be worth upgrading to Rife 4.16 lite. The quality is seems to be at least as good as Rife 4.9 while using a little less GPU.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

4.16 lite has fewer artifacts and about the same performance as 4.9, so if you are using 4.9, time to switch to 4.16 lite

I managed to fix the 3840x2144 problem.. It was a setting in one of the LAV filters menus for MPC-HC.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

my point is 4.9 and 4.16 lite have the same performance but 4.16 lite has better quality. then there is no reason for people to use 4.9 even if live-action films are the same quality (no proof or testing yet)

you might try to turn off hardware acceleration (hwdec) in your player. at least in my case, it gave me worse performance on 4K videos.

Looking at your screenshots I assume you are talking about animation because they've been trying to improve that since 4.13 (I think). But for live action I doubt there's much difference between the two.

There will always be scenes where differences will be noticeable, even in live action. Improvement at no extra cost is great, that is amazing for anyone that had 4.9 working fine but not later versions, they can now upgrade to 4.16 Lite and use that instead with improved quality.

I think your final point makes the most sense, so I did some testing using the same scenes I always test with. Quality wise they are very similar although 4.16 lite might have a slight edge. Rife 4.16 lite also uses about 2% less GPU resources than 4.9. So yeah it looks like 4.16 lite might be worth the upgrade smile

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

4.16 lite is really good, my first tests show the same quality with action movies as 4.15v2 - but 50% better performance. I could go up from x2 (48fps) to x2,5 (60fps) on a 4070 (about 90% GPU) for (nearly) 4K movies.

For artefacts it may be a little better than 4.9 but it's definitely not the same as 4.15, not even close. But I have access to a large number of movies and over time I've worked out which ones stress the models. Also I'm watching on a big assed cinema sized screen big_smile So if you don't see any of the issues I and others can see with the "your" movies then it does not matter smile

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

right now I just need to keep these 3 models:

4.6 for performance
4.16 lite for balance
4.15 for quality

also the mpv VRR bug
looks like d3d11va will cause VRR to stop working, d3d11va-copy and other hwdecs work with VRR

Hi

maybe some progress over here....
Setting frc/frame/resize to -1 makes uhd work. But.....what am I doing here? Wiki says "resize to screen if larger". Am I loosing content/resokution by doing so? Other downsides?

what is your display resolution?

default SVP will resize video to display screen's
