Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Has anyone experienced this issue before?

Everything was working fine but as of the last month MPV has stopped working. Typically when I have issues a full reinstall of SVP sorts it but not this time.

I go to start a film and I hear the fans spin up (as they do when the command line window opens to cache the film) but no command line opens. I let the computer do its thing for a while and eventually it goes idle and MPV never opens. This seems to be when trying to run RIFE.

It does work with Mplayer classic but typically I cant use x3 speed for 4k films on my 3440x1440p monitor unless I use MPV. Its an odd one..

Try to update to latest mpv version from here:
https://mpv.io/installation/
Try to delete mpv cache folder from here:
"C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\mpv"
Try to delete RIFE cache folder from here:
"C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\SVP4\cache"
Restart pc maybe?

4.24 is out, anyone tried it?

I don't know why this have been removed from the readùe, but it was described as this : 4.24 (Inherited from 4.18 and fine-tuned)

Yep and and my advice is don't bother. v4.18 is still the best for live action and even the dev has updated the README to agree.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Any option to run Rife(4.15 lite) with 4k source video?
Im using a 3090 and 4k to 60hz is impossible, lag like hell.
thanks

Hottea
Use frame downscale in SVP.
You need to press and hold mouse button to select resolution from the list.

Edit: Information below is for 2x, running with a custom refresh rate of 48Hz at 48FPS.

3090 owner here. I hate downscaling so here are some tips to run 4K.

First of all, forget about 25 FPS or higher at full 4K with newer RIFE versions (hopefully they optimise better in the future). The source has to be 24FPS (which is most shows and movies anyway). You can create a profile for 25 FPS or higher to run old RIFE such as version 4.6 for example.

I use one profile which is: 4.16 Lite v2 for full screen 4K content, Performance Boost enabled. Scene change detection set to SVP motion vectors.

I have a second profile which is 4.18 v2 with Apply this profile IF "Frame Height" ≤ 1700

If you know how to overclock/undervolt, GPU memory overclock helps RIFE a lot, so for example I undervolt my GPU and run +1050Mhz overclock on memory (depending on your GPU, this might be unstable for you so try +700). I have this profile on MSI Afterburner for when I watch movies/shows with a custom fan curve to keep the GPU quiet too.

I use MPV to watch content and here are my current MPV Config:

ontop
fullscreen=yes
d3d11-exclusive-fs=yes

volume=100
volume-max=100

vo=gpu-next
gpu-api=d3d11
hwdec=auto-copy
hwdec-codecs=all
gpu-context=d3d11
fbo-format=rgba16hf

hdr-compute-peak=no
tone-mapping=st2094-40
target-colorspace-hint=yes

scale=ewa_lanczos
cscale=ewa_lanczos
dscale=ewa_lanczos
tscale=ewa_lanczos

glsl-shader="C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\mpv\Shaders\FSRCNNX_x2_8-0-4-1.glsl"
glsl-shader="C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\mpv\Shaders\KrigBilateral.glsl"

The onnx files for v4.23 and v4.24 are still available but links to the actual models used to create the onnx files have been removed by the model creator.

This is strange because I'm pretty sure I saw this config when I looked at your previous code before I apologized. Anyway the mpv devs removed fbo-format from gpu-next some time ago. Other than that, it's interesting that you are using a HDR10+ tone mapping curve. Are you using a Samsung HDR10+  TV?

Thanks, it runs smoothly now. But i wonder does downscaling mean now i run 4k source at 1080p 60hz?

@Blackfyre: I tried to run 24hz source with rife 4.6 but it still stutter badly, gpu usage fluctuates between 100% and much lower. My 3090 is already undervolted and +1200mhz on memory clock stable. Normal svp runs 4k 60hz no problem but since experiencing rife's smoothness i cant come back to normal svp anymore. Maybe we need 4090 to experience 4k 60hz glory smile)
Thankss

Oh this goes without saying 60 FPS is impossible with a 3090 at 4K.

I create a custom resolution with a custom refresh rate that's 48Hz using CRU. Switch HDR on, switch refresh rate to 48Hz, and then I play my content using 2x from source, so 48 FPS always to match the custom refresh rate for perfect smoothness.

48 FPS with RIFE feels and looks smoother than 120 FPS without.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

Hottea
Downscale changes the frame size from 4K to a lower resolution. You can use 1080p, 1440p or any other value using SVP settings in additional options.
Downscaling results in a loss of quality, but may not be very noticeable.
It is all depends on the quality of the source.

You can set up your profiles as Blackfyre said.
He is 3090 owner here.
Custom refresh rate 48 Hz is good solution.
But another solution is 50 Hz + 4% speedup in mpv:

# "ReClock" replacement
video-sync=display-resample
video-sync-max-video-change=5

Blackfyre
I believe you have compared 48 Hz custom mode and 50 Hz speedup mode. What do you think?

btw, 4.24 is two times slower than 4.6
is it two times better? hmm

I'm sure this is a rhetorical question but the answer is obviously "no" smile Rife v4.24 is as maybe a bad as v4.6 for artefacts. Being two times slower makes it even worse. However, as I said, even though the onnx files are available, the model creator has removed both v4.23 and v4.24 from view. The last official version is v4.22.

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

ok, 4.18 is also two times slower, and it's also recommended by the model creator
is it two times better?

mmm.... yes and no big_smile
trying to figure the best default model now
and it looks like 4.6 is still the best default choice
in fact, every newer release gets slower and slower and slower...

Re: New RIFE filter - 3x faster AI interpolation possible in SVP!!!

According to Steam Hardware Survey average user will upgrade to a 4000 series soon so they will be able to handle it:

RTX 2000 Series: 7.21%

Yes but as you know that is because the models get more complicated. Also Rife v4.18 is recommended based on quality, not performance.

Rife v4.6 makes sense as the default model, but maybe have a look at v4.9. It gets rid of some of the worst artefacts from v4.6 but doesn't use as much resources as v4.1x models. Rife v4.18 is my default but it definitely should NOT be the SVP default because it uses too much GPU.

I don't want to complicate matters, but downscaling enables more people to use Rife v4.1x models. Just a thought smile

4.9 is like 4.xx_lite, 1.5 times slower than 4.6

...and quite a few on here are using "lite" models which suggests that v4.9 might be usable for many. Again, Rife v4.6 makes sense, but I do wonder if seeing some of the major artefacts it creates might turn people off. I know I was having second thoughts until v4.9 came out. Not only did it reduce or remove some of the more obvious artefacts. But it also gave me hope that a better model would arrive some day. Which they did, and if downscaling is used then many users can use the better models too. I don't even need to use downscaling, but for blu-rays I'm getting identical picture quality while using around 25% GPU. So why not? smile
